{"id":507612,"date":"2025-10-17T19:56:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T19:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/507612\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T19:56:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T19:56:13","slug":"demons-souls-ps5-patched-to-take-advantage-of-power-saving-feature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/507612\/","title":{"rendered":"Demon&#8217;s Souls PS5 Patched to Take Advantage of Power Saving Feature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"scanlines\" title=\"Demon&#039;s Souls PS5 Patched to Take Advantage of Power Saving Feature 1\" href=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/4e79c6330c626\/demons-souls-ps5-patched-to-take-advantage-of-power-saving-feature-1.large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/demons-souls-ps5-patched-to-take-advantage-of-power-saving-feature-1.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" alt=\"Demon's Souls PS5 Patched to Take Advantage of Power Saving Feature 1\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/demons_souls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Demon\u2019s Souls<\/a>, the PS5 launch remake, has been patched to take advantage of Sony\u2019s new power saving feature.<\/p>\n<p>For those who don\u2019t know, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/09\/ps5-firmware-update-out-now-brings-power-saver-mode-dualsense-controller-pairing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the power saving toggle<\/a> was added to the new-gen console in a recent firmware update.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been advertised as part of PlayStation\u2019s continued commitment to lowering energy consumption, although some hypothesise it may also be a stealth test for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/07\/ps6-handheld-becomes-more-legit-with-new-ps5-power-save-mode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the company\u2019s rumoured handheld<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, we tested out the new profile in Bluepoint\u2019s remake of the PS3 classic, and it drops the framerate to 30fps. Image quality is also worse, with the game running at a much lower resolution.<\/p>\n<p>The key detail here is that power draw decreases a fair amount; on a launch model PS5 we went from around ~230W to under ~100W \u2013 so it\u2019s a considerable difference.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, that\u2019s nowhere near the 25W or so that would be required for a handheld, but there will be various efficiencies in a true portable device that could help bridge the gap. It\u2019s certainly all interesting stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Unless you do genuinely intend to save the planet, though, we wouldn\u2019t recommend using this power saving mode when you plan to play <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/demons_souls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Demon\u2019s Souls<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the game is perfectly playable in this profile, it\u2019s just so much better at 60fps in 4K, and we\u2019re not entirely convinced the power savings (while significant) are worth the downgrade.<\/p>\n<p>By our calculations, if it took you about 50 hours to beat Demon\u2019s Souls, you\u2019d pocket approximately $1 in energy savings throughout your playthrough by taking advantage of the lower-spec feature.
