CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Baker & Taylor, one of the nation’s leading suppliers for public libraries, is closing its operations after a failed acquisition deal. <\/p>\n
In a memo sent to library partners nationwide in early October, the company stated: <\/p>\n
“There are no sustainable pathways forward, and we have made the difficult decision to begin winding down our operations.”<\/p>\n
Libraries in Boone and Kenton counties have been informed that new releases they ordered will not be delivered, leaving shelves without the latest titles.<\/p>\n
“So, things that we ordered in Baker & Taylor two months ago are what’s being released now. So, we’re doing a lot of work to switch those orders to our other vendors,” said Lisa Clark.<\/p>\n
In Boone County, Katie Justice acknowledged the impact but mentioned that their library system had been ordering from other vendors as well. <\/p>\n
“We’re going to do our best to get all the books to everybody as fast as we can, but there is going to be a very large gap in what had been part of our distribution process,” Justice said. <\/p>\n
Patrons might notice changes in bookshelf labels, with some new shelves becoming themed to promote existing collections.<\/p>\n
Library leaders are uncertain about how quickly the situation will improve. They suggest patrons pick up a favorite book already available or opt for new titles online, as eBooks remain unaffected. <\/p>\n
