The result is a list of 260 city spots, towns and villages with brilliant schools, wholesome communities, great places to eat and drink and, in the case of the Home Counties, convenient links to London.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The publication chose seven to eight places in each\u00a0Home County as part of its best places to live list, meaning that there are 48 places within a commutable distance of the capital city that it reckons are well worth the move. So, let\u2019s get into it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Berkshire, it picked\u00a0<strong>Cookham<\/strong>\u00a0as one of the top places to live for its \u2018village life that\u2019s got more going for it than your average rural idyll\u2019 and <strong>Twyford<\/strong> for its riverside location and access to the Elizabeth line, which runs from the town to Bond\u00a0Street in less than an hour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"b998424b-e12c-bc62-4459-a906925f7385\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760781674_888_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Amersham, England\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Shutterstock\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106301806\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Shutterstock&#13;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saffron Walden<\/strong>, which was the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/uk\/news\/the-uks-72-best-places-to-live-in-2025-full-sunday-times-list-including-overall-and-regional-winners-032525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunday Times\u2019\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/uk\/news\/the-uks-72-best-places-to-live-in-2025-full-sunday-times-list-including-overall-and-regional-winners-032525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best place to live<\/a>\u00a0in the whole of the UK for 2025, was one of Muddy Stiletto\u2019s picks for Essex, while <strong>Amersham<\/strong>, recently named one of the UK\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/the-best-place-to-retire-in-britain-is-less-than-30-minutes-from-london-080125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best places to retire to<\/a>, was a top pick for Buckinghamshire thanks to\u00a0the surrounding beauty of the Chilterns, the top-notch restaurants (including one Michelin-starred) and its collection of\u00a0National Trust properties and period cottages.\u00a0<strong>Milton Keynes<\/strong> also made the cut for its \u2018blend of London energy and leafy calm\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over in Kent, <strong>Faversham<\/strong> got a shoutout for its growing reputation as a foodie destination and easy train to London St Pancras, which takes just over an hour.
