Recent reports, however, indicate that relationship is not very good. In fact, insiders claim it has deteriorated during the last few months, and is now hanging on by a thread. \u201cWhat\u2019s happening now feels like the fiercest clash we\u2019ve seen between two senior royal women in years,\u201d a source told RadarOnline.com<\/a>. \u201cCamilla feels sidelined, while Kate\u2019s growing confidence and visibility are unsettling her,\u201d adding, \u201cBoth are aware that the balance of power is shifting \u2013 and neither is prepared to step back quietly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Queen Camilla<\/a> took on a larger role as both King Charles and Kate Middleton<\/a> were sidelined with cancer last year. Now, Middleton<\/a> has returned to public duties and ceding the spotlight is apparently been hard for Queen Camilla. \u201cCamilla worked hard to establish herself after years of criticism, and she doesn\u2019t like the idea of being overshadowed,\u201d an insider said. \u201cKate\u2019s return has been polished, professional and very \u2018queenly\u2019 \u2013 it\u2019s obvious she\u2019s positioning herself for the future, and that\u2019s making Camilla<\/a> uneasy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Things reportedly got worse during the summer, as the two pushed for a larger role as the King continued his recover. \u201cIt\u2019s subtle, but it\u2019s there \u2013 in which events they attend, how much coverage each gets and even the tone of official briefings. You can feel the competition,\u201d a palace source said, with the relationship between the two described as \u201cicy\u201d and \u201cimpossible to ignore.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it all reportedly came to a head when Queen Camilla\u00a0reportedly brushed<\/a>\u00a0Kate Middleton away during a conversation with first lady Melania Trump<\/a> during the recent state visit to the UK. \u201cThings were strained backstage, a source told\u00a0RadarOnline<\/a>. All eyes were on Kate, and Camilla was clearly aware of that. She was furious that the attention had slipped away from her and knew people would gossip about it later.\u201d<\/p>\n

But sources close to the Prince of Wales say Kate is not interested in any feuds. \u201cKate\u2019s focused on her duties and her health,\u201d a royal source said. \u201cShe\u2019s not interested in rivalries, but she won\u2019t be diminished either. She knows the public looks to her, and she takes that role seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Increasingly, it feels like the family is being divided into two camps, say sources, with William and Kate on one side, and Charles and Camilla on the other. \u201cThose around the King are fiercely loyal, but he\u2019s fully aware that his son\u2019s moment is approaching. The real issue is how easily that handover will unfold,\u201d another source said.<\/p>\n

Reports have indicated that William\u2019s plans to modernize the monarchy have clashed with his father\u2019s love for tradition. The Prince of Wales cannot make any changes yet, as that\u2019s not his place, but those in the know believe big changes will come as soon as he is King.<\/p>\n

As for Kate and Camilla, \u201cIt genuinely feels like there are two queens in waiting \u2013 one already established and the other getting ready to take her place,\u201d according to sources. And that means, \u201cEverything appears cordial in public, but behind the scenes, the atmosphere is noticeably tense.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is, in many ways, the way of the world. Things change. The young take over.
