Loose Women star Gloria \u00adHunniford<\/a> says the show\u2019s \u00adon-screen talent will all escape the axe amid the cuts hitting behind-the-scenes workers. ITV bosses are overhauling its Daytime roster with the loss of 220 of 440 jobs. But presenters \u2013 including \u00adChristine Lampard, Ruth Langsford and Kaye Adams \u2013 are set to keep their roles.<\/a><\/p>\n Gloria, 85, said: \u201cThe cuts will be behind-the-scenes staff, because you\u2019re going to have all three programmes in one studio.\u201d With regard to the Loose Women panel, she confirmed: \u201cI think everybody is staying \u2013 absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n Gloria added: \u201cWe are very concerned about the team, because we have a very large team and they\u2019re all very clever and they work b****y hard. This was despite the show\u2019s reputation for ground-breaking campaigns such as Change + Check<\/a>, as well as recently amassing its highest ratings for four years under much-admired editor Victoria Kennedy.<\/p>\n Gloria says the new set-up means that from January there will be three live broadcasts from one new studio in London\u2019s Covent Garden. The TV veteran added: \u201cI\u2019ve never seen three live programmes come from one studio but they tell me it\u2019ll work. You\u2019ll have Lorraine in the morning, then This Morning<\/a>, and then you\u2019ll have Loose Women.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no point in thinking, will it work? It has to work, you know, and people make it work.\u201d<\/p>\n The changes also mean that Loose Women will no longer be filmed in front of an audience,<\/a> which Gloria hopes will not affect the format too badly. She added: \u201cI think we\u2019d be able to do it very well but, on the other hand, the audience is lovely and they join in and everything.\u201d<\/p>\n This comes after TV presenter Lorraine Kelly<\/a> has described the cuts to her show as \u201cheartbreaking\u201d as she opened up for the first time about her show being slashed. The star also vowed to continue on her self-titled programme amid previous speculation she was prepared to walk away.<\/p>\n She said: \u201cI don\u2019t see me going anywhere until people get fed up, you know? Until people say, I\u2019ve had enough of that one.\u201d Speaking about the cuts which sees her show cut from an hour to 30 minutes and only airing for 30 weeks<\/a> out of 52, she said her first thought was for her team affected.<\/p>\n She admits: \u201cIt\u2019s really heartbreaking to split up the team, a lot of my team have been with me for more than 20 years and they\u2019re my friends. I\u2019ve grown up with them. They were babies when they started with me and now they\u2019ve got babies of their own.\u201d<\/p>\n Lorraine said she was pleased that a lot of the team had since been redeployed on other shows. She added: \u201cIt\u2019s been difficult with the cuts, it\u2019s been hard. I\u2019m a lot happier about it now but it was honestly and genuinely all about the team. I wasn’t annoyed or angry about this for me..it was about the team.\u201d<\/p>\n But she said the plans have NOT accelerated any plans to retire. \u201cAbsolutely not. I am going to be toddling off that show in my Zimmer frame and even then, I\u2019ll be coming in\u2026.I look at people like Janet Street Porter<\/a>, Gloria Hunniford<\/a>, still doing Loose Women<\/a>, I mean, Gloria\u2019s in her 80s, you look at Angela Rippon<\/a>, you look at these astonishing women who are just getting into their stride in their 70s and 80s, and I look at them and I think, Yep, I\u2019m still going to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n However she said that she had an \u201cinkling\u201d that cuts were on the way. \u201cIt was kind of like, we sort of had an inkling that things were going to change,\u201d she says. \u201cBecause we\u2019ve made a lot of cuts, and we\u2019ve been trying really hard to make sure that because we don\u2019t have that much money, we actually punch way above our weight for the quality of guests that we get on. I mean, I\u2019ve just been talking to George Clooney (for his new film Jay Kelly), for God\u2019s sake. He wanted to talk to me.\u201d<\/p>\n She said she was currently on a year\u2019s contract – but denied reports she would leave at the end of it. \u201cWe\u2019re all freelancers. We\u2019re all just on a year\u2019s contract,” she said.<\/p>\n Gloria was speaking as Best magazine marked its 11th Heroes Awards held in partnership with DFS at London\u2019s Waldorf Hilton.<\/strong><\/p>\n Like this story?
