A man was arrested after police smashed a planned street party in inner-city Birmingham<\/a> amid fears of trouble.<\/p>\n

Police said previous so-called ‘block parties’ in Aston had sparked community issues.<\/p>\n

A 20-year-old suspect was arrested this morning, Saturday, October 18, after officers were tipped off about the party, organised for near Staniforth Street and Bagot Street.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> said “unregulated activity can cause serious harm to the public and residents in the area”.<\/p>\n

The force said its investigation into identifying the party organisers was “moving quickly”<\/p>\n

A force spokesperson said: “We\u2019ve arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance after we received information about a potential \u2018block party\u2019 due to take place in Aston tonight.<\/p>\n

“He was arrested this morning and remains in custody as we continue with our enquiries.<\/p>\n

“Previous \u2018block parties\u2019 in the area have resulted in disorder and this will not be tolerated in our communities.<\/p>\n

“This type of unregulated activity can cause serious harm to the public and residents in the area.<\/p>\n

“The investigation is moving quickly and we\u2019re seeking to identify other individuals who are arranging the party or intending to cause disorder.<\/p>\n

“We’re examining social media and information and will arrest anyone linked to criminality or planning disorder. The party was being organised in the area of Staniforth Street and Bagot Street.<\/p>\n

“We would like to reassure the community that they will see a high presence of officers in the area tonight and if they have any concerns to get in touch.<\/p>\n
