In the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/royals\/article-14639487\/worst-royal-guests-queen-elizabeth-mail-podcast.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Mail&#8217;s<\/a> podcast, &#8216;Queens, Kings and Dastardly Things&#8217;, columnist Robert Hardman and historian Professor Kate Williams discussed how one guest even smuggled a dog inside <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Buckingham Palace\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/buckingham-palace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buckingham Palace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the mishap took place in the 1970s, when Europe was fighting the disease, rabies, spread by the bite of an infected animal. Britain had a draconian rule which included holding pet dogs in a strict six-month quarantine to make sure they were rabies-free.<\/p>\n<p>In 1973, the Conservative government of Edward Heath <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/travel\/articles\/1038959\/queen-elizabeth-travel-news-dog-smuggling-zaire-president-state-visit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invited the African dictator President Mobutu of Zaire, to Britain<\/a>, along with his wife, Marie-Antoinette.
