A number of cases were heard across Northern Ireland courts this week. From Monday, October 13 through to Friday, October 17, people appeared before the courts charged with a range of offences.<\/a><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, a man was convicted after he was found selling “fake Lego” at a Belfast market. On Wednesday, a Co Antrim<\/a> businessman caught with cannabis with a street value worth up to \u00a370,000 was spared prison.<\/p>\n

And on Friday, a man currently serving a Life Sentence for murder was back in court, where he was sentenced for a botched armed robbery he committed whilst on bail.<\/p>\n

Here’s a court roundup for the week beginning Monday, October 13:<\/p>\n

Paddy Jackson’s father awarded \u00a3100k over false claims about son’s rape trial<\/strong><\/p>\n

The father of Paddy Jackson is to be awarded \u00a3100,000 in libel damages for false claims he tried to pay off the complainant at the rugby star\u2019s rape trial, a judge ruled on Tuesday, October 14.<\/p>\n

Peter Jackson secured the payout against reality TV personality Danielle Meagher over the lies she posted on social media.<\/a><\/p>\n

Delivering judgment at the High Court in Belfast,<\/a> Master Mark Harvey insisted there must be consequences for her \u201cvile\u201d allegations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere seems to be a sense in some quarters that there is an online cloak of invisibility leading people to type things on a keyboard they may never utter in person,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Man convicted of selling ‘fake Lego’ at Belfast market<\/strong><\/p>\n

A man has been convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court<\/a> after he was found selling “fake Lego” at a Belfast market.<\/p>\n

Alan Crockard, 36, from Comber, pleaded guilty to two charges on Tuesday, October 14, following a trading standards investigation at a Belfast market<\/a> where he was found selling mini-figures which were likely to be mistaken for genuine Lego mini-figures.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lego holds several registered trademarks relating to the shape and design of its mini-figures. Copying or selling these figures without permission is a criminal offence under the Trade Marks Act 1994.<\/p>\n

NI businessman caught with cannabis worth \u00a370,000 in drugs bust spared jail<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Co Antrim<\/a> businessman caught with cannabis with a street value worth up to \u00a370,000 was spared prison on Wednesday, October 15.<\/p>\n

Martin Edward Giles, 38, of Bawnmore Drive, Newtownabbey, received a 22 month sentence suspended for two years after he previously pleaded guilty to charges of possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply.<\/p>\n

He further admitted three counts of possessing Class A drugs and two of simple possession of cannabis.<\/p>\n

Murderer sentenced for botched armed robbery while on bail<\/strong><\/p>\n

A 44-year old man currently serving a Life Sentence for murder was back in court on Friday, October 17, where he was sentenced for a botched armed robbery he committed whilst on bail.<\/p>\n

In March of this year, Timothy Walker had a minimum 15-year sentence imposed upon him for the murder of Denis Shearer.<\/p>\n

The 25-year old victim was subjected to a fatal attacked in the bedroom of his Fernmore Road home in Bangor<\/a> in the early hours of February 28, 2021 and passed away in hospital nine days later.<\/p>\n

Whilst on bail for this murder, Walker targeted an off licence on the Holywood Road in Belfast<\/a> armed with an imitation firearm he had painted black to make it look more authentic and a flick baton.<\/p>\n

Soldier F trial judge will deliver his verdict next week<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Judge presiding in the trial of Soldier F will deliver his verdict on whether the former paratrooper is guilty or not guilty of murder and attempted murder on ‘Bloody Sunday<\/a>‘ next Thursday.<\/p>\n

Following a five-week hearing at Belfast Crown Court<\/a>, the non-jury trial concluded on Thursday, October 16 with Judge Patrick Lynch KC set to give his verdict this day next week.<\/p>\n

Prior to this, Judge Lynch rejected a defence application to have the case against Soldier F <\/a>thrown out.<\/p>\n

Man faces jail for part in ‘show of strength’ intimidation in Pitt Park<\/strong><\/p>\n

A 60-year old man was remanded in custody on Thursday, October 16, for being part of a group of masked men involved in a ‘show of strength’ in east Belfast.<\/p>\n

Derek George Lammey will be sentenced next week after he was found guilty earlier this year of an offence of intimidation. Lammey, of Spring Place in east Belfast<\/a>, was acquitted on charges of unlawful assembly and affray.<\/p>\n

Co-accused Stephen Matthews was cleared on charges of unlawful assembly, affray and intimidation dating back to February 2021.<\/p>\n

Co Antrim man admits voyeurism and making indecent photographs of children<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Co Antrim man was jailed on Friday, October 17, for 14 months for offences of voyeurism and making indecent photographs of children.<\/p>\n

Craig Cully (34) appeared from custody at Belfast Crown Court to be sentenced on a total of nine charges he faced.<\/p>\n

In August this year Cully, whose address on court papers was given as care of a solicitor’s office in Ballymena<\/a>, entered guilty pleas to viewing a female in a private act and without her consent for the purposes of his own sexual gratification.<\/p>\n

He also admitted taking and making indecent photographs of a child, possessing extreme pornography and possessing a prohibited image of a child.<\/p>\n
