{"id":512361,"date":"2025-10-19T17:14:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T17:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/512361\/"},"modified":"2025-10-19T17:14:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T17:14:15","slug":"mcewan-in-for-scotland-in-world-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/512361\/","title":{"rendered":"McEwan in for Scotland in world championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>East Lothian angler Barry McEwan is preparing to cast a line for Scotland in the world sea fishing championships in Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>The self-employed carpet fitter, who is a member of the Bass Rock Shore Angling League, is in the five-strong team which also includes Glasgow-based Nuno Santos, team manager for the Scotland junior sea fishing team.<\/p>\n<p>Santos learned his skills fishing alongside his father Vitor on beaches in his native Portugal and his dad is involved with the team on this occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Other team members are Neil McMillan (Ayr), Calum Culbert (Aberdeen) and Billy Buckley (Uddingston) and the event runs until October 25 at Vila Real Santo Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>It is described as being a traditional Portuguese fishing town on the banks of the Guadiana River. The town was built in 1774 and the beaches are sandy.<\/p>\n<p>They are some of the quietest beaches in the Algarve and rarely get busy, even at the height of the summer season.<\/p>\n<p>There are 120 competitors with countries including South Africa, Germany, Algeria, Belgium, Brazil, Cyprus, Spain, France, Gibralter, Greece, The Netherlands, England, Italy, Ireland, Lithuania, Morocco, Wales, Poland and Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>PICTURE: McEwan fishing on the harbour at Dunbar.
