\n Organisers said it would give supporters the chance to remember someone special who was, or still is, a light in their life.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Christmas lights team of Becka Melrose and her mum Kate Macdonald organise the motifs for lampposts in the village. The village community council organises the community Christmas tree.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe hope in the future we could plan a festive event for the village but need more people to get behind the idea before it gets put in place,\u201d said Becka.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The lights represent a wonderful sense of togetherness and pride within our community.\n<\/p>\n
\n “They bring warmth and joy to the area, creating a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors who pass through.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It\u2019s a lovely reminder of how much can be achieved when our community comes together to celebrate and support these traditions.\n<\/p>\n
\n Since its formation in 2021, the team has raised more than \u00a314,000 to fund the hire and installation of 15 Christmas lights throughout the village.\n<\/p>\n
\n Described as “a massive community effort”, it has been supported by local residents, fundraisers and generous donations.\n<\/p>\n
\n Last year, a milestone was reached and, rather than paying another year\u2019s hire fee, the team was able to purchase the lights outright from the hire company.\n<\/p>\n
\n Now, Whitecraig owns its own Christmas lights, meaning future costs are reduced to about \u00a32,000 for installation and \u00a3300 for storage each year.\n<\/p>\n
\n Sponsorship includes: a personalised board on Whitecraig Main Street throughout December, featuring the loved one\u2019s name; and photo of the board and light shared on social media.\n<\/p>\n
\n Options are to donate \u00a3100 for a light or \u00a350 each if sharing with someone else.\n<\/p>\n
