{"id":512953,"date":"2025-10-19T22:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T22:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/512953\/"},"modified":"2025-10-19T22:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T22:52:13","slug":"stuart-dallas-has-spotted-leeds-united-doing-something-marcelo-bielsa-would-never-allow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/512953\/","title":{"rendered":"Stuart Dallas has spotted Leeds United doing something Marcelo Bielsa would never allow"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Leeds United legend Stuart Dallas has noticed the club adopting a tactic that he believes former boss Marcelo Bielsa would never have allowed during his time at the club. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/marcelo-bielsa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcelo Bielsa<\/a> was known for his uncompromising approach during his time at Leeds, as the Whites attempted to play with a swashbuckling attacking verve. <\/p>\n<p>Although Bielsa\u2019s style was thrilling, it also left Leeds vulnerable, and Bielsa eventually departed as Leeds battled against relegation from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/premier-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> in the 2021\/22 season. <\/p>\n<p>Daniel Farke has been forced to adopt a more direct style in the top flight, with Leeds using Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their main target man and captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/opinion\/leeds-united-have-a-secret-weapon-they-need-to-use-more-ethan-ampadu-is-key-to-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethan Ampadu being used to launch long throws<\/a> when the opportunity presents itself. <\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/stuart-dallas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stuart Dallas<\/a>, who was a mainstay of the Bielsa side, the Argentinian would never have sanctioned the use of long throws during his time at the club. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"621\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-1081234260-1024x621.jpg\" alt=\"Marcel Bielsa looks on during Leeds United v Derby County - Sky Bet Championship\" class=\"wp-image-115209\" \/>Photo by Alex Dodd \u2013 CameraSport via Getty ImagesStuart Dallas says Marcelo Bielsa would not use long throws<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to LUTV\u2019s Matchday Live ahead of the game against Burnley, Dallas was asked about Leeds\u2019 decision to use long throws as part of their attacking set-up. <\/p>\n<p>According to Dallas, Leeds practised retaining possession from throw-ins several times a week under Bielsa as part of his desire to keep the ball at all costs. <\/p>\n<p>Asked whether Bielsa would have considered using long throws, Dallas responded: \u201cDefinitely not, no.\u00a0 I think we\u2019ve seen different managers with different approaches.\u00a0 I think we had Raphinha taking long throws at one point as well.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut under Marcelo, for sure, it was different.\u00a0 We worked very, very hard on throw-ins because, effectively, it is possession, isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 If you can keep the ball, you have a better chance of scoring.\u00a0 I think the stats say that if you give it away from a throw-in, you\u2019re more likely to concede because you\u2019re open.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked really hard on it then.\u00a0 As I was saying before, we\u2019d done it maybe twice a week, different combinations, different movements, just to try and retain the ball and maybe get out the other side.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, the long throw is coming back into it now for whatever reason.\u00a0 But yeah, I think it\u2019s easy to get caught up in trying to play and you\u2019ve got to realise what your strong points are and obviously long throws are part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"710\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2147780655-2-1024x710.jpg\" alt=\"Stuart Dallas saluted the fans at Leeds United v Blackburn Rovers - Sky Bet Championship\" class=\"wp-image-84048\" \/>Photo by Ed Sykes\/Getty ImagesSet pieces remain crucial to Leeds United\u2019s attack<\/p>\n<p>Although Bielsa would not have encouraged Leeds to launch the ball into their opponents\u2019 box, set pieces remain a significant weapon in Farke\u2019s arsenal. <\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/theanalyst.com\/competition\/premier-league\/stats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Opta<\/a>, 42.86% of Leeds\u2019 goals this season have come from free kicks, which is the fourth-highest percentage in the Premier League. <\/p>\n<p>By scoring three goals from set pieces in their opening eight games, Leeds also rank joint-fourth overall for the most goals from set pieces in the competition. <\/p>\n<p>Bielsa may not approve of the tactic, but sometimes pragmatism has to trump idealism.
