Roadworks which have been the scourge of motorists in South Bristol<\/a> for nearly two and a half years are finally set to be completed after being the subject of multiple delays. The \u00a36.9m project<\/a> to remodel junctions between Hengrove<\/a> Way and Airport Road began in July 2023 and was originally scheduled to end in April this year.<\/p>\n However, the end date was subsequently pushed back, first to August, then to October and finally to November. A Bristol City Council<\/a> spokesperson confirmed the project was “on track” to be fully completed by November.<\/p>\n Some of the lights at the new junction are already in operation. They have received a mixed reception from road users posting in a community Facebook<\/a> group.<\/p>\n “I have been using this junction practically everyday since the new set up and it is a complete farce.,” Becky wrote.<\/p>\n Another person, posting anonymously, wrote: “Unpopular opinion: the traffic lights at the junction with Bamfield and Creswicke are an improvement on the old set up.”<\/p>\n Many people commented that they thought the works had been a waste of money.<\/p>\n The most recent delay to the project was put down to \u201ca number of issues with utilities works and the number of diversions required which must be complete before the whole project can be finalised,\u201d according to the council.<\/p>\n Throughout its lifespan, road users have criticised an apparent lack of work occurring on the site of the project, which is near to the controversial BoKlok on the Brook housing development<\/a>.<\/p>\n The project has involved a major remodelling of the two traffic signal junctions on A4174 to improve capacity for vehicular traffic and to provide improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.<\/p>\n As part of that, maintenance and resurfacing has been carried out on some existing carriageways and new drainage has been installed.<\/p>\n If the works are complete by November, they will narrowly avoid outdoing the infamous Malago Road project \u2014 further north in Bedminster<\/a> \u2014 in terms of delays.<\/p>\n
