{"id":51437,"date":"2025-04-26T06:30:14","date_gmt":"2025-04-26T06:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/51437\/"},"modified":"2025-04-26T06:30:14","modified_gmt":"2025-04-26T06:30:14","slug":"bungling-council-workers-bin-valuable-1980s-andy-warhol-print-and-45-other-artworks-during-clear-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/51437\/","title":{"rendered":"Bungling council workers BIN valuable 1980s Andy Warhol print and 45 other artworks during clear-out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TOWN hall bunglers are in the soup for dumping a valuable Andy Warhol print during a clear-out.<\/p>\n<p>They are thought to have put the 1980s silkscreen print of Queen Beatrix in the trash along with 45 other artworks during a building renovation.<\/p>\n<p>It is unlikely any of the discarded pictures, together worth nearly \u00a320,000, will be recovered.<\/p>\n<p>Hans van der Pas, mayor of the Maashorst municipality in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/netherlands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netherlands<\/a>, said: \u201cThat\u2019s not how you treat valuables. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But it happened. We regret that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Warhol print, part of his colourful series Reigning Queens, featuring four monarchs including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/queen-elizabeth-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>, was kept in a town hall basement.<\/p>\n<p>But the \u00a313,000 work was thrown out when the builders moved in last year.<\/p>\n<p>Queen Beatrix reigned as queen of the Netherlands from 1980 until she abdicated in 2013, when she was succeeded by her son King Willem-Alexander.<\/p>\n<p>A council investigation concluded: \u201cOwnership was not properly established, no policies and procedures were established regarding the renovation and insufficient action was taken when the artworks turned out to be missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>US-born pop artist Warhol, known for his Campbell\u2019s soup can paintings, created the Beatrix print in 1985, two years before his death.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Andy Warhol standing in front of his artwork.\" height=\"960\" width=\"644\" data-credit=\"Getty\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0d1e2146-8b65-4396-be67-3487d98e371d.jpg\" data-caption=\"Council officials are under fire after dumping a valuable Andy Warhol print during a clear-out\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0d1e2146-8b65-4396-be67-3487d98e371d.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>Council officials are under fire after dumping a valuable Andy Warhol print during a clear-outCredit: Getty<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TOWN hall bunglers are in the soup for dumping a valuable Andy Warhol print during a clear-out.
