Lancashire Police say they are aware of an alleged incident involving a Burnley player during Saturday\u2019s Premier League match against Leeds United<\/a>, after reports of accusations of spitting.<\/p>\n A number of accusations of spitting have been made against a Burnley player, as per multiple eyewitness claims, though the name of the player is yet to be confirmed by the authorities. Police say they are currently working with Burnley FC to \u201cestablish the facts\u201d.<\/p>\n Leeds United<\/a> are aware of the allegation. Such matters rest with the jurisdiction of the police and the Football Association. Leeds Live<\/strong> has contacted the FA on the issue.<\/p>\n Under UK law, spitting intentionally at another person, in most cases, is classed as common assault. Football’s lawmakers IFAB classifies this as physical and aggressive behaviour, and offenders are to be shown a straight red card.<\/p>\n In January, Norwich City\u2019s Borja Sainz was banned for six games and fined \u00a312,000<\/a> after being found guilty of spitting at Sunderland defender Chris Mepham. Last year, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was banned from five matches for spitting on the floor in the tunnel as officials walked by.<\/p>\n A statement from Lancashire Police said: \u201cLancashire Police are aware of an alleged incident involving a Burnley player during the second half of the Premier League game between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor on Saturday 18th October.
