{"id":515112,"date":"2025-10-20T19:24:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T19:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/515112\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T19:24:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T19:24:12","slug":"fergusons-verdict-on-danny-rohl-as-rangers-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/515112\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferguson&#8217;s verdict on Danny Rohl as Rangers manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Ibrox club named the 36-year-old German as Russell Martin&#8217;s successor.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/steven-gerrard\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steven Gerrard<\/a> and Kevin Muscat were both in the running for the role at different stages, but Rohl impressed during the recruitment process.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rohl&#8217;s appeal lies in his coaching skills and experience at clubs with high expectations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, some have expressed concern over his lack of experience as a head coach and his similarity in profile to Martin.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Former club captain Ferguson, who was interim boss last season, has vowed to support the new man in charge.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Speaking on Go Radio, he said: &#8220;It&#8217;s been a long two weeks for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/sport\/rangers?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rangers<\/a> fans.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It looked like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/steven-gerrard\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steven Gerrard<\/a> was coming back, I was quite happy with that.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;The contract negotiations didn&#8217;t go well, then Kevin Muscat looked to be getting the job.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Again, I think that would have been a really good appointment because he&#8217;s been a manager for 12 years and he&#8217;s doing a fine job in Asia.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;On Sunday night it breaks that Muscat isn&#8217;t getting the job and then it&#8217;s Danny Rohl &#8211; who last week ruled himself out.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;So it&#8217;s been a bit of a crazy 15 or 16 days for the Rangers fans.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Now they&#8217;ve got a new manager in place, I&#8217;ve seen that he likes to set high standards&#8230; his high standards have got to be winning games of football as quickly as possible.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;If he does that, he&#8217;ll certainly get the support of the Rangers supporters.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rangers are currently sitting sixth in the Premiership, with only one win from eight after drawing with Dundee United at the weekend.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, Ferguson insists that he is not concerned about their league position at this stage and believes a title race could still be on the cards.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: &#8220;No, not at this stage.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Eight games.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;30 games to go.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;90 points to play for.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;There&#8217;s still a lot of football.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;They are still in four competitions.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Hopefully he can come in and certainly make a difference.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rohl is set to face his first challenge as manager on Thursday night in a game against Brann.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ferguson believes that if Rohl can start winning games quickly, he will gain the support of the Rangers fans.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: &#8220;One thing I&#8217;ll be doing is getting right behind him.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ferguson also commented on the upcoming match between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/sport\/celtic?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic<\/a> and Hearts, saying: &#8220;The best result for Rangers is a draw at Tynecastle.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Rangers beat Kilmarnock and then it&#8217;s back on.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It can change so quickly.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;And the big thing for Derek McInnes and Hearts is that he needs to keep his best players injury-free.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Ibrox club named the 36-year-old German as Russell Martin&#8217;s successor.
