Manchester United secured a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield after Harry Maguire’s dramatic late header, while Kobbie Mainoo’s reaction to the ball crossing the line spoke a thousand words.<\/p>\n

Kobbie Mainoo couldn’t control his emotions when Harry Maguire scored a match-winning<\/a> goal in Manchester United’s<\/a> win over Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was a tense state of affairs at Anfield on Sunday, as Ruben Amorim’s<\/a> squad faced Arne Slot’s Premier League<\/a> champions in the north west derby. Bryan Mbeumo<\/a> took the lead for United just two minutes into the fixture, slotting the ball through the legs of Giorgi Mamardashvili from close-range before wheeling off in celebration in front of the Kop.<\/p>\n

And while Cody Gakpo snuck in behind enemy lines 78 minutes into the fixture to make it 1-1, fate had other plans that prevented Liverpool from taking a point from the clash. That’s because, six minutes later, Maguire<\/a> sealed the deal for his club with a well-placed header at the back post and that ensured United claimed a hard-earned victory over their fiercest rivals.<\/p>\n

While the away crowd naturally erupted with jubilation, United’s official social media account captured Amorim’s animated reaction to the ball crossing the line. And, in the background, the clip also showed elation from Mainoo<\/a>, who beamed with joy as he was hoisted up into the air by a member of the Reds’ coaching staff.<\/p>\n

It came just moments before Mainoo entered the fray as a substitute for Bruno Fernandes<\/a>, as Amorim looked to hold on to the lead that his side had earned. And that’s exactly what United managed to do, repelling a thick and fast Liverpool onslaught which took place for the duration of the eight additional minutes for stoppage time.<\/p>\n

Owing to the win<\/a>, United climbed up to ninth in the Premier League<\/a> table, with four victories, three losses and a draw from their opening eight fixtures. Liverpool, meanwhile, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat during the match, given that they went into the showdown off the back of losses to Crystal Palace<\/a>, Galatasaray and Chelsea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

United now enjoy a week-long rest before they face Brighton at Old Trafford<\/a> – with fixtures against Nottingham Forest<\/a> and Tottenham<\/a> away from home to play before the November international break. Speaking after the win, Amorim said: “Every day is special, but of course, this was a very special win.<\/p>\n

“To see our fans singing during the game, in one moment, the biggest rival, they are champions on their field, in their stadium. This win is all about our fans and the spirit of the team, because I believe that we can play so much better.<\/p>\n

“We will try to analyse the game in the same way that we analyse the other ones. Try to see the good things and the bad things, but for me the special thing is the togetherness that they showed during this game. That is special for me.”<\/p>\n
