The Rt\u00a0Hon\u00a0Lord Provost\u00a0of the city of Edinburgh,\u00a0Robert Aldridge,\u00a0led a special group of wreath-layers at the annual opening ceremony of the Edinburgh Garden of Remembrance, next to the Scott Monument, in East Princes Street Gardens.<\/p>\n

Members of the Armed Forces community, including veterans, attended the event which is organised\u00a0by Legion Scotland\u00a0and\u00a0Poppyscotland, to remember those who have died with more than\u00a040 wreaths laid at a service which was also attended by members of the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reverend Dr Karen Campbell, National Padre of the Royal British Legion Scotland led the service, along\u00a0with\u00a0attendees from\u00a0The Scottish Government including Minister for Higher and Further Education, Ben Macpherson MSP, Police Scotland and other dignitaries.<\/p>\n

Music was provided by The Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, as well as piper\u00a0Eddie Molyneux from George Heriot\u2019s School who led the wreath-layers into the garden.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Legion Scotland\u00a0Events Manager, Brian Ward, said: \u201cThis\u00a0was a wonderful occasion which was very well attended by representatives\u00a0of the\u00a0Armed Forces\u00a0and other dignitaries\u00a0from across our capital city and of course Scotland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lovely weather certainly helped to draw out the crowds\u00a0with so many people turning out, as well as\u00a0the many passers-by who stopped to reflect\u00a0and pay their respects to our fallen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Garden has thousands of poppy crosses and other remembrance symbols with personal dedications from all over Scotland. It will remain open until\u00a0the Armistice\u00a0Day service\u00a0on\u00a011 November for\u00a0visitors to pay their own tributes.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0opening\u00a0event coincided with the launch of this year\u2019s Scottish Poppy Appeal on the same day. Read more here.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Scottish Poppy Appeal is Scotland\u2019s biggest fundraising appeal, with more than two\u00a0million poppies already being distributed around the country. All funds raised will go to support\u00a0Poppyscotland\u2019s\u00a0work, providing life-changing support and advice to veterans, servicemen and women, and their families.<\/p>\n
