He lived in a \u2018prestigious rented apartment\u2019 at Butley Hall, Scott Road in Prestbury, and sent his daughter to a private school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-crown-court\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Manchester Crown CourtLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester Crown Court<\/a> heard that he paid her fees by handing over an envelope full of cash with the school\u2019s receptionist. Prosecutors told how gambling addict Bell had staked a total of almost \u00a32.2 million in bets with Ladbrokes and Betfred.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_171025gregorybell2.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The development in Prestbury, near Macclesfield where Bell lived his lavish lifestyle(Image: Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Bell, of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/tameside\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tameside<\/a>, has now been jailed alongside two of his associates, including one who fled to Spain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The drugs were stored packaged and distributed from safehouses on Moss Lane in Alderley Edge and Coniston Avenue in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/bury\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BuryLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bury<\/a>, the court heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Around 4kg of cocaine, half a kilo of heroin, \u00a335,000 in cash, other drug paraphernalia, weapons, and a money-counting machine were found at one property. Whilst \u00a3150,000 in cash was found at another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Bell used the monikers of \u2018Castlenail\u2019, \u2018Rhinoradio\u2019, and \u2018Wonkyfrog\u2019 on the Encrochat network, and sold cocaine at between \u00a337,000 and \u00a343,500 per kilo, and cannabis between \u00a34,000 and \u00a34,600 ker kilo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_Drugs-found-at-a-stash-house-following-warrantJPG.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Drugs found during a raid at one of the safehouses(Image: Greater Manchester Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Couriers are said to have submitted &#8216;timesheets&#8217; to claim wages for drugs deliveries. He discussed laundering money through rental businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Even though he had not declared any income for six years, &#8216;it was evident he was living a lavish lifestyle&#8217; Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said, with his apartment costing \u00a32,200 per month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Bell was arrested in May 2020 following a surveillance operation. Designer clothes worth \u00a377,000 were found in his wardrobe, whilst in his car, police said they found &#8216;a packed suitcase and copy of a Spanish travel document, ready to flee the country at a moment\u2019s notice.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_Green-bag-filled-with-drugsJPG.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>More drugs which were recovered(Image: Greater Manchester Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">He was sentenced at the same time as two of his associates. Ian Ogden, 36, &#8216;arranged deals and managed logistics&#8217; in the operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Ogden, who was known as \u2018Tubbytern\u2019 and \u2018Integralrhino\u2019, was said to be a close associate of Bell who stepped in as \u2018caretaker\u2019 when his co-accused was arrested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Paul Brown, 52, &#8216;played a key role&#8217; in the distribution of the drugs, police said. Brown, known as \u2018Unholypanther\u2019, was said to be a long-standing customer of Bell\u2019s gang, the crown court heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">He was extradited from Spain back to the UK to face justice after an &#8216;extensive international manhunt.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_Ian-Ogden.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Ian Ogden(Image: Greater Manchester Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Bell, Ogden and Brown all used the EncroChat communications network to carry out their criminal business, and were exposed when European law enforcement successfully infiltrated the system<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Bell pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, ketamine, amphetamine and cannabis, and money laundering. He was jailed for 18 years and nine months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Ogden, of Kevin Avenue, Royton, pleaded guilty to the same charges. He was handed a sentence of 16 years and eight months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Whilst Brown, of Leicester Road, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/failsworth-and-hollinwood\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"FailsworthLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Failsworth<\/a>, pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply cocaine, ketamine, amphetamine and cannabis. He was jailed for 10 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_Paul-Brown.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Paul Brown(Image: Greater Manchester Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Following Detective Inspector Richard Castley from our Serious Organised Crime Division said: \u201cGregory Bell was not just a drug dealer \u2014 he was the head of a criminal enterprise that reached into every corner of the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">&#8220;He operated like a CEO, using encrypted phones, spoofed identities, and a network of couriers and safe houses to move vast quantities of drugs and launder millions of pounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cThanks to the tireless work of our officers and partners, we were able to dismantle his network piece by piece. The scale of Bell\u2019s operation was staggering \u2014 from the volume of drugs being moved to the number of properties he acquired through criminal proceeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">&#8220;This was a man who profited from the misery that drug dealing and using has on our communities, not just in Manchester but the entire country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cSeeing Bell behind bars is another victory in our ongoing fight against organised crime. We are sending a clear message: if you are involved in organised crime, we will find you, we will catch you, and we will bring you to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Hilary Ryan, specialist prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service\u2019s Serious Economic and Organised Crime and International Directorate, said: \u201cGregory Bell and Ian Ogden who played a leading role in the distribution of hundreds of kilos of class A and B drugs to the North West have been jailed today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cThey believed they were operating in secret using encrypted devices but we, working closely with the National Crime Agency and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/greater-manchester-police\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Greater Manchester Police<\/a>, were able to prove the scale of their organised crime group\u2019s offending so they can be sentenced for it and prevented from spreading dangerous drugs and associated crime to the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cAdditionally, we worked with international partners to extradite Paul Brown \u2013 one of their biggest wholesale customers \u2013 from Spain to face justice in the UK for his own drug dealing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Six members of the gang were sentenced at a previous hearing, on July 13 this year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\" publication=\"men\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Christopher Watson (29\/08\/1975) of Huddersfield Rd, Oldham, who ran with the handle \u2018Tabooemu\u2019 was sentenced to 16 years and six months for conspiracy to supply Class A and B and money laundering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\" publication=\"men\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">David Williams (09\/06\/1978) of Clifton Ave, Wales received a 12-year sentence for conspiracy to supply Class A and B controlled drugs and money laundering<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Kane O\u2019Keefe (27\/08\/1994) of Minto Street, Ashton-Under-Lyne, was jailed for 12 years for conspiracy to supply Class A and B controlled drugs and money laundering.<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">David Walley (21\/05\/1975) of no fixed address, was handed a 10-year prison sentence for conspiracy to supply Class A controlled drugs.
