Bristol City have seen a new name added to their injury list ahead of the visit of Southampton, with Gerhard Struber providing an update on the fitness of Harry Cornick after the forward missed the Robins’ win over Norwich City.<\/p>\n

Cornick was not included in the Reds’ matchday squad – for the first time in the Championship this season – at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon. In his absence, Ephraim Yeboah took a place on the substitutes bench as City ran out 1-0 winners<\/a> courtesy of Mark Sykes’ first goal of the season.<\/p>\n

Despite coming close to an opener in the first half, particularly when Neto Borges struck the post<\/a>, Struber’s side were made to wait until the 73rd minute to take the lead. Moments after he was introduced from the bench, Sykes found himself in plenty of space at the back post and calmly tucked a deflected Anis Mehmeti cross home to secure the Robins’ first win in five games.<\/p>\n

The three points gained in East Anglia see City climb up to seventh in the league, a single point outside of the play-off places<\/a>. The Reds’ next chance to jump into the top six will come against Southampton at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening, but Struber will be unable to call upon Cornick once again.<\/p>\n

“No, Harry has got an injury on his groin,” the head coach told Bristol Live<\/a> when asked if the forward’s absence was a selection decision. “He’s out for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

“Ephraim was the replacement for him.”<\/p>\n

Under Struber – and Liam Manning last term – Cornick’s minutes have been incredibly limited. Although the 30-year-old has been included in the squad for nine of City’s 10 Championship matches so far this term, he has only made a single appearance, playing six minutes as a substitute against Hull City back in August<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the former Luton Town attacker’s absence, it will likely be once again down to Sinclair Armstrong, Fally Mayulu<\/a>, and Yeboah to offer an alternative option to Emil Riis<\/a> at the top end of the pitch for the visit of Southampton.<\/p>\n

The Saints have had a mixed start to the campaign under Will Still, after being relegated from the Premier League last term. Ahead of Tuesday night’s clash, Southampton sit 16th in the Championship, four points adrift of the Robins and five of the top six, having won just two of their first 10 league games.<\/p>\n

Still’s side travel to Ashton Gate having drawn each of their last two matches against Derby County<\/a> and Swansea City on either side of the October international break.<\/p>\n

Naturally, ending their four-match winless run<\/a> with three points at Carrow Road will have boosted the belief of those in the Reds camp, but they are expecting to face another tough test in midweek.<\/p>\n

“The win makes us happy, and now we have to re-train for the next big game,” Struber explained after the Robins’ win over Norwich City. “Of course, I think every win, in the end, helps confidence, but the game on Tuesday will be again, so much more different.<\/p>\n

“On the same time, a really, really high quality team is coming in Southampton, with of course, the goal to [be] promoted. I think again, when we have a really good plan, and again, the effort to invest on a really high level, then I think it is, again, very difficult against us.”<\/p>\n
