The city centre will come alive with a riot of colour and music on 2 November when the tenth Edinburgh Diwali takes place. <\/p>\n

The Festival of Light was launched a decade ago by the Lord Provost and the Indian diaspora in Edinburgh, and is the forerunner to the winter festivals with a parade and performances at the Ross Bandstand rounded off by a planned fireworks event.<\/p>\n

Dishoom will serve up chai before the parade led by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland followed by a procession of more than 150 performers and community representatives along George Street. <\/p>\n

The performances include traditional Indian dance and culture at either end of the parade, with demonstrations from\u00a0Yatra Tamil,\u00a0Uttarakhand,\u00a0Malayali, and\u00a0Telugu\u00a0dance groups, University of Edinburgh\u2019s\u00a0Junoon Dance, and\u00a0Edinburgh Banghra Crew. The\u00a0Glencorse Pipe Band\u00a0will be keeping the beat along the parade, while Edinburgh\u2019s South American community join in with demonstrations from\u00a0El Encanto\u00a0and\u00a0Mextli\u00a0dance groups.<\/p>\n

Following the parade, celebrations move to West Princes Street Gardens, with a fun-filled afternoon of performance planned at the Ross Bandstad in the foothills of Edinburgh Castle,\u00a0alongside a menu of Indian cultural activities and cuisine provided by Mr Basrai World Cuisine, Desh restaurant, treats and henna painting from Lidl.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Throughout the afternoon, Edinburgh\u2019s leading classical Indian dance school,\u00a0Nikkan Dance Academy\u00a0will tell the story of Diwali through nine different forms of dance, while\u00a0Alhalya\u00a0demonstrate the intricate footwork and dynamic gestures and expressive gestures of Bharatanatyam, a traditional Indian dance known for its dynamic rhythms. Celebrating more modern Indian culture, Edinburgh\u2019s own\u00a0Udaan\u00a0and\u00a0Bollyfeat\u00a0perform some of the best contemporary Bollywood fusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Closing the day\u2019s performances, the UK\u2019s premier Bollywood Rock Band,\u00a0Shoonya\u00a0will headline with an electrifying performance before a fireworks finale lights up Edinburgh\u2019s city skyline for the first time in 2025.<\/p>\n

President Edinburgh Diwali, Rajnish Singh, said: \u201cThis year marks a special milestone for Edinburgh Diwali as we proudly celebrate 10 years with the theme that embodies our journey of bringing communities together through light, culture, and joy \u2013 Uniting Communities, Celebrating Diversity.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom a humble beginning in 2015, the Festival of Light (Diwali) has grown into one of Edinburgh\u2019s most cherished community-led celebrations, thanks to the dedication of our committee members, the incredible talent of our performers, the unwavering support of our volunteers, and the enthusiasm of thousands of friends and audiences who have joined us over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Rt Hon Lord Provost and Chair of Edinburgh Diwali, Cllr Robert Aldridge, said: \u201cDiwali is observed by over 1.5 billion people worldwide and we\u2019re proud to bring this exciting tradition to the heart of Scotland\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiwali is a family-friendly celebration of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. Free and open to all, it has become one of Edinburgh\u2019s unmissable events in recent years and this year celebrates the 10th anniversary.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a colourful parade, live performances, and spectacular fireworks, it\u2019s a joyful occasion that will bring community together and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the festival of lights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Consul General of India, Edinburgh, Mr Siddharth Malik, said: \u201cDiwali is a festival that symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. It reminds us of the enduring power of truth, compassion, and goodwill to illuminate our lives. The spirit of Diwali continues to inspire and bring together people across the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted that Edinburgh Diwali 2025 will once again bring these timeless values to life in the heart of this beautiful city on 2nd November 2025. The vibrant performances, cultural showcases, and enthusiastic community participation reflect the deep bonds of friendship and mutual respect that exist between India and Scotland.<\/p>\n
