Lidl has confirmed the opening date for its newest Merseyside store<\/a>. The modern discount supermarket in Southport<\/a> will be open from 8am following a ribbon cutting ceremony with pupils from Larkfield Primary School.<\/a><\/p>\n The new store is on Marine Drive<\/a> and it will open its doors to the public on Thursday, October 23. The store will be open from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Spanning 1,334 sqm, the store will feature the discounter\u2019s fan favourite in-store bakery, iconic Middle of Lidl, and customer facilities, including toilets with baby-changing stations.<\/p>\n Outside, there will be ample parking for cars and bicycles as well as electric vehicle chargers. Some of the store\u2019s power will also be captured from solar panels on the roof.<\/p>\n The multi-million pound investment is also creating up to 40 new jobs.<\/p>\n Following the discounter\u2019s recent announcement, Lidl colleagues will receive \u00a313 nationally, marking the discounters fifth pay rise in two years and bringing the business\u2019 investment in pay to more than \u00a370m.<\/p>\n On opening day, shoppers can look forward to complimentary food sampling as well as some special prizes up for grabs.<\/p>\n Stuart Jardine, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: \u201cFor over two decades we have been creating Lidl fans across Southport and are delighted to open our doors to our newest store. We\u2019re excited to improve access for residents to our affordable and high-quality products, making it even easier for households to save on their weekly shop.<\/p>\n Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping to make this store a reality. It\u2019s always an exciting moment when we\u2019re finally able to see our plans come to life and make a difference to local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n Ahead of its latest store opening the discounter is encouraging nearby Primary schools to join in the new Lidl Foodies Programme, a free initiative representing an investment of half a million from the discounter to provide teachers with resources to help children across the country develop a love for healthy eating.<\/p>\n Merseyside shoppers could also see new Lidl stores in two other locations <\/a>after proposals put forward by the supermarket in recent months.<\/p>\n Not all of Lidl\u2019s plans have yet been fully approved by Liverpool City Council<\/a> however and the supermarket chain is still awaiting feedback from residents on some of its proposals as is required by law.<\/p>\n However, if Lidl gets its way two new sites could be built in Merseyside with the supermarket hoping to build stores in Croxteth<\/a> and Wavertree<\/a>.<\/p>\n Lidl first issued plans for a new site on Storrington Avenue in Croxteth in April, with people living in the area receiving leaflets about plans for the new supermarket.<\/p>\n It has since been confirmed that Lidl is planning to demolish an old fire station to make way for a new Liverpool store.
