\n A new contract secured by Openreach will deliver gigabit broadband to 4,000 premises across Mid-West Shropshire, with half of those in the South of the county.\n<\/p>\n
\n The upgrade follows a campaign led by MP Stuart Anderson, who pushed for improved digital connectivity after the previous contract was cancelled late last year.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Anderson said: “Local homes and businesses rightly demand greater broadband coverage and faster speeds.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I know just how important this is for residents, which is why I launched my campaign to enhance digital connectivity after the contract for Mid-Shropshire was cancelled last year.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I am pleased that Openreach has now been awarded this contract, which will see gigabit broadband rolled out to a further two thousand premises in South Shropshire.”\n<\/p>\n
\n January’s contract, valued at \u00a3108 million, will benefit 48,000 homes and businesses across East and South Shropshire, North Herefordshire, North Wales, and South West Wales.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Anderson has urged that the new contract be delivered “at pace” to ensure maximum benefit for the area.\n<\/p>\n
\n He also criticised the government\u2019s decision to delay the national rollout target from 2030 to 2032.\n<\/p>\n
