If you\u2019re already getting excited about the festive period, that can be hardly be helped:\u00a0there are fewer than 10 weekends until Christmas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re the type to savour the Christmas period (rather than panic about present-buying), there\u2019s a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. Some of London\u2019s\u00a0biggest and best festive markets start welcoming visitors at the start of November (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/when-every-major-london-christmas-market-returns-for-2025-100325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">find a full list of markets and opening dates here<\/a>), and soon the capital\u2019s iconic\u00a0neighbourhoods will\u00a0sparkle with Christmas-themed displays.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But when exactly does each of London\u2019s major Christmas lights displays officially turn on? We\u2019ve got the lowdown. From Oxford Street and Covent Garden to Kew, here are the switch-on dates for the capital\u2019s festive displays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/things-to-do\/christmas-lights-in-london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The best Christmas lights displays in London<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When are London Christmas lights turned on this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The longest shopping street in Europe will, as before, feature 5,000 stars consisting of 300,000 LED bulbs. Once again, the street is partnering with Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) to raise funds for seriously ill children. It\u2019ll be the first major London display to light up for Christmas 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Switch-on date<\/strong>: Monday November 3.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"4d727b19-34cd-9c04-3248-77b8462ed05e\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761027751_643_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"London Christmas lights, Oxford Street\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: BBA Photography \/ Shutterstock.com\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106332481\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: BBA Photography \/ Shutterstock.com&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Regent Street, Piccadilly, Jermyn Street, St James\u2019s Market and more will feature the area\u2019s usual \u2018spirits\u2019 display. Thirty of the graceful winged beings will look down on the quarter, while a Wishing Tree at St James\u2019s Market will raise money for food distribution charity The Felix Project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Switch-on date<\/strong>: Thursday November 6.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024 Carnaby launched a brand-new programmatic lights display designed to last five years. This year Carnaby\u2019s display is called \u2018All is Bright\u2019 and will apparently capture \u2018the joy and optimism of the season while reflecting the creativity and vibrancy that make Soho unique\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Switch-on date<\/strong>: Thursday November 6.<\/p>\n<p>Back in September Covent Garden (with Carnaby) was among the first to announce this year\u2019s festive switch-on date. A whopping 300,000 lights will illuminate the Piazza, Seven Dials, Neal\u2019s Yard and surrounding streets, while Christmas-themed cocktail bar Miracle at Henrietta will also return for 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Switch-on date<\/strong>: Wednesday November 12.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"222bdb8b-a0e6-1263-1a0a-6c244cc029cf\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761027752_437_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"London Christmas lights, Covent Garden\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: BBA Photography \/ Shutterstock.com\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106332482\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: BBA Photography \/ Shutterstock.com&#13;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marylebone Village<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the day that\u00a0Marylebone Village\u2019s Crimbo lights are turned on for 2025, the high street will be pedestrianised for the occasion and Devonshire Street will host a main stage with live music and performances by local school choirs. The event will support homeless women charity The Marylebone Project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Switch-on date<\/strong>: Wednesday November 12.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Leadenhall is one of London\u2019s most atmospheric and beautiful festive displays, and the covered arcade also hosts several events to help fill up stockings.
