\u201cMost of the major points<\/a> are agreed to,\u201d Trump said in his social media post shortly after arriving in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are very close to a deal, and the two sides should now meet, at very high levels, to \u2018finish it off\u2019,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe will be wherever is necessary to help facilitate\u201d an end to the conflict, he said. <\/p>\n

Ukraine was not represented at the U.S.-Russia meeting in Moscow. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said late Friday<\/a> that \u201creal pressure\u201d needs to be applied to the Kremlin to accept an unconditional ceasefire.<\/p>\n

\u201cReal pressure on Russia is needed so that they accept either the American proposal to cease fire and move towards peace, or our proposal \u2014 whichever one can truly work<\/a> and ensure a reliable, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire, and then \u2014 a dignified peace and security guarantees,\u201d Zelenskyy said in his nightly address<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The American proposal to end the conflict would essentially grant Russia all the territory it has gained<\/a> in the war, including Crimea<\/a>, which Russia illegally took over in 2014. Zelenskyy has rejected that proposal, but on Friday he seemed to soften his tone.<\/p>\n
