{"id":517484,"date":"2025-10-21T17:15:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T17:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/517484\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T17:15:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T17:15:21","slug":"lewisham-one-of-only-two-24-hour-met-police-counters-left-as-services-face-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/517484\/","title":{"rendered":"Lewisham one of only two 24-hour Met Police counters left as services face cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lewisham will remain one of only two Metropolitan Police stations in London to operate 24 hours a day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, 25 will continue with reduced hours and ten, including Mitcham, are to close.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.met.police.uk\/news\/met-police-progress-in-closing-ps260m-funding-gap-502211\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Met is restructuring<\/a> to close a \u00a3260 million funding gap and redeploy thousands of officers.<\/p>\n<p>Only Charing Cross and Lewisham will continue providing round-the-clock public access.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said: \u201cThe Met is having to shrink to live within its means and, as the public would expect, we are targeting our resources on a narrower set of their priorities to make London safer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLondoners tell us they want more visible and responsive policing on the capital\u2019s streets, and that is exactly what we are going to deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"736\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/king-s-church-international-3mjspmQDM_M-unsplash-1-edited.jpg\" alt=\"An image of a policeman standing in the middle of the road\" class=\"wp-image-159674\"  \/>The Met say Londoners want more visible policing.
