BBC presenters Clara Amfo and Lauren Laverne welcome some well-known faces to the green sofa during Tuesday’s episode of The One Show.<\/p>\n

On the latest episode of The One Show,<\/a> hosts Clara Amfo and Lauren Laverne chatted with guests Petula Clark, Neil Morrissey and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell.<\/p>\n

As the BBC <\/a>presenters welcomed their guests onto the show, which recently saw one presenter make a blunder on-air, <\/a>they quickly turned their attention to the Downtown singer who has recently penned a book about her remarkable career.<\/p>\n

However, viewers were soon distracted by Petula’s youthful looks upon learning that the singer will be celebrating her 93rd birthday next month.<\/p>\n

One viewer exclaimed on X: “Petula looks amazing.” Another posted: “WHAT A GIRL. #LEGEND ‘scuse the caps, it’s valid though!!!”<\/p>\n

A third viewer chimed in: “Wow. Hard to believe Petula is 92. Looks and sounds much much younger!” Echoing this sentiment, another said: “Petula Clark is a QUEEN.”<\/p>\n

One fan remarked: “Petula Clark wow she looks so good 93 next month!” While another shared: “Heavens, Petula Clark is in good shape for 92.”<\/p>\n

During the conversation, the singer revealed why she chose to write a book about her career at this point, reports Wales Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lauren asked the singer: “You said you’d never write an autobiography, but you’ve changed your mind, why?”<\/p>\n

To which she responded: “Well, I really didn’t want to write. I’ve been asked so many times, ‘Oh, you’ve got to tell your story, it’s so interesting’. I had no desire to do it!<\/p>\n

“Then, my husband talked me into it and he passed away last year. So, I decided I would do it. But, it wasn’t easy! I’m not really very nostalgic.<\/p>\n

“I had to look back, I had to really dig around in my past, and it’s ok, I suppose. Here I am, it’s out now!”<\/p>\n

Clara emphasised that Petula’s career began 83 years ago when she was a young child, performing for the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Displaying a photograph of her as a youngster singing into the microphone, she revealed that she was broadcasting a message to her uncle who was serving in the armed forces<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She said: “We done the rehearsal and during rehearsal there was a huge air raid, the place was shaking and a lot of the kids were up from the country and were crying.<\/p>\n

“I was blase\u0301, I was a London kid. So, the producers said, ‘would somebody like to come up and sing a song? A piece of poetry?’<\/p>\n

“I said I’d sing a song, so I went up on the stage and sang. They heard it in the control room and went ‘hmm, we’d like to use your voice in the programme’. That’s the first time I was heard on the air.”<\/p>\n
