FASCINATING TOUR: Ulrika linked locations with tales about historical characters <\/p>\n
One of Lea Valley u3a\u2019s Exploring London groups recently enjoyed an extremely interesting and enlightening walk with tour guide, Ulrika.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Her carefully researched topic led to some very amusing and, at times, quite risqu\u00e9 stories.<\/p>\n
Walking through the city’s streets and alleyways, the group stopped at buildings of interest to link a person in history to one or more of the ‘deadly sins’.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Each sin was interspersed with a tale of lust (of which there were many) \u2013 and members were particularly surprised by Samual Pepys\u2019 antics!<\/p>\n
Stopping in front of the Lloyd\u2019s building with the Gherkin also in view, they learnt about the envy but friendly rivalry between the buildings’ architects, Richard Rogers and Norman Foster.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, avarice was attributed to the East India Company and it was Thomas Cromwell\u2019s pride that was his downfall.<\/p>\n
On finishing their tour at the Tower of London, the group were asked who they thought was guilty of all seven deadly sins.<\/p>\n
