{"id":520057,"date":"2025-10-22T16:43:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T16:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/520057\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T16:43:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T16:43:15","slug":"rent-in-barnet-rises-7-in-past-year-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/520057\/","title":{"rendered":"Rent in Barnet rises 7% in past year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The average private rent in Barnet reached \u00a31,898 per month \u2013 up 7% from \u00a31,775 a year ago reports Sonja Tutty, Data Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"583\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/radarrent.jpg\" alt=\"A row of new looking terraced houses\" class=\"wp-image-36093\"  \/>Across London, the average rent was \u00a32,260 \u2013 rising 5% from the year before  \u2013 (Credit \u2013 Radar)<\/p>\n<p>Rent in Barnet rose 7% over the past year, new figures show.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-growth campaign group Britain Remade said millions of young people will be paying \u201cever-rising\u201d rents and \u201clocked out\u201d of buying homes until enough new houses are delivered.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/economy\/inflationandpriceindices\/bulletins\/privaterentandhousepricesuk\/october2025\/relateddata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Provisional figures from the Office for National Statistics<\/a> show the average private rent in Barnet reached \u00a31,898 per month in the year to September<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 up 7% from \u00a31,775 a year prior.<\/p>\n<p>It was also up 28% from an estimated \u00a31,488 per month five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Valuation Office Agency rent officers collect prices from a variety of sources, including landlords and letting agents, with the aim to collect data on approximately 10% of the market.<\/p>\n<p>Across London, the average rent was \u00a32,260 \u2013 rising 5% from the year before.<\/p>\n<p>Kensington and Chelsea had the highest rental cost in the region at \u00a33,629 per month, while the lowest was in Bexley at \u00a31,514.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Richards, chief executive of Britain Remade, said: \u201cIt is increasingly looking like the government will miss its target to build 1.5 million homes by the end of this Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil we build the homes we need, millions of young people will be locked out of home ownership and stuck paying ever-rising rents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Emerson, chief executive of Propertymark, said: \u201cWe are about to witness some of the biggest evolutions in over thirty years within the rental sector, with the Renters\u2019 Rights Bill across England and the Housing (Scotland) Bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth will make fundamental changes to how landlords operate and are aimed at strengthening consumer rights concerning standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcross the forthcoming decade, it is essential that all eyes are turned to encouraging long-term investment in the rental sector to keep up with increased demand and population growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In September, the <a href=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/25782142\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">average private rent in Great Britain<\/a> was \u00a31,366 per month. This was \u00a371, or 5%, higher than 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Including estimates for Northern Ireland, ONS head of housing market indices Aimee North said: \u201cUK annual private rents inflation has eased for the ninth consecutive month, and annual growth has slowed for all countries across the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The figures also show the different costs for various homes in Barnet, from \u00a31,458 for a one-bed property to \u00a33,118 for a home with four or more bedrooms in\u00a0September.<\/p>\n<p>Among the property types in the area:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A detached house cost \u00a32,948 to rent per month<\/li>\n<li>A semi-detached cost \u00a32,499 per month<\/li>\n<li>A terraced house was \u00a32,163 per month<\/li>\n<li>And a flat or maisonette was \u00a31,695 a month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Independent news outlets like ours \u2013 reporting for the community without rich backers \u2013 are under threat of closure, turning British towns into news deserts.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The audiences they serve know less, understand less, and can do less.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If our coverage has helped you understand our community a little bit better, please consider supporting us with a monthly, yearly or one-off donation.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Choose the news.
