Daniil Medvedev has shown recent signs of improvement after a difficult season this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Medvedev has only won one Grand Slam match in 2025<\/a>, and he has lost his last four matches at major tournaments.<\/p>\n

After losing in the first round of the US Open<\/a>, Medvedev parted ways with his long-term coach<\/a> and hired 2002 Australian Open<\/a> champion Thomas Johansson.<\/p>\n

This move has already been rewarded, with Medvedev winning his first ATP title<\/a> in 29 months at the Almaty Open.<\/p>\n

Medvedev is a former US Open champion<\/a> and world number one, but after a challenging season he has fallen down to world number 14.<\/p>\n

The ATP Tour<\/a> has been dominated by two players over the past year, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner winning the last eight Grand Slams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Tennis Bolshoi, Medvedev<\/a> was asked how big he thinks the gap is between himself and Alcaraz<\/a> and Sinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although he admitted it is hard to judge as he has not played either in 2025, Medvedev suggested that he still thinks it is possible to bridge that gap.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell the problem is that I didn\u2019t play with them this year because I played poorly and didn\u2019t reach their stage,\u201d answered Medvedev. \u201cSo I can\u2019t say whether they play better than in previous years. They were already playing well back then and often beat me. And they beat, in principle, almost everyone, so the gap is big but in one particular tennis match anything can happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as for myself, if I continue to play better and better, as I do now, then this gap will decrease, not because they play worse, but because I play better. That\u2019s why I will try to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev\u2019s Head-to-head vs Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner<\/p>\n

Medvedev has not played either Alcaraz or Sinner in 2025, but he has played them collectively 23 times.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz has won the last four matches he has played against Medvedev, with the most recent coming at the China Open<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

Although they have not played each other this year, Medvedev could play Sinner at the Vienna Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n
