{"id":520779,"date":"2025-10-22T23:30:24","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T23:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/520779\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T23:30:24","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T23:30:24","slug":"five-things-to-watch-out-for-during-englands-homecoming-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/520779\/","title":{"rendered":"Five things to watch out for during England&#8217;s Homecoming Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-111926\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Sarina-Wiegman-led-England-to-back-to-back-successes-at-the-Euros--300x204.jpg\" alt=\"England World Cup 2027 key dates\" width=\"766\" height=\"521\"  \/>Sarina Wiegman has some difficult decisions to make ahead of England\u2019s return to action<\/p>\n<p><strong>England are back in action this week for the first games of their Homecoming Tour, so here are the top five things to look out for during the friendlies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five things to watch out for on England Homecoming Tour<br \/>\nMaya Le Tissier minutes<\/p>\n<p>Possibly the biggest discussion point for England\u2019s upcoming friendlies is the use of Maya Le Tissier.<\/p>\n<p>The Manchester United captain has proved to be one of the most reliable defenders in England, <a href=\"https:\/\/shekicks.net\/maya-le-tissier-makes-history-for-manchester-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">playing 71 games in a row for the Red Devils.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite her incredible club record, Le Tissier has been shunned by Sarina Wiegman for England.<\/p>\n<p>Le Tissier didn\u2019t play a minute at Euro 2025 and she has been an unused substitute in 12 of the last 13 international matches.<\/p>\n<p>With England missing Lucy Bronze and Leah Williamson for their Homecoming Tour, it would be a real shock to see Le Tissier benched.<\/p>\n<p>Wiegman recently insisted that Le Tissier\u2019s best position for the Lionesses is at full-back, but having played every game for United in the middle of defence, fans will be disappointed if she is played out of position this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Wingers fighting for spots<\/p>\n<p>England arguably have the best wingers in world football but there will be two stars absent from their upcoming friendlies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shekicks.net\/manchester-city-boss-andree-jeglertz-lauren-hemp-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lauren Hemp<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/shekicks.net\/lauren-james-injury-chelsea-england-wsl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lauren James<\/a> started for the Lionesses during the Euros, but they are both recovering from respective injuries and have been left out of the latest squad.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">ANDR\u00c9E \ud83d\udcac (On Lauren Hemp) She\u2019s following the rehab plan, she\u2019s still not training with the team. It\u2019s been already a couple of weeks\u2026 I should probably have said a number of weeks instead\u2026 She\u2019s unfortunately not ready for\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IgXPqFJFcR\">pic.twitter.com\/IgXPqFJFcR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Manchester City Women (@ManCityWomen) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ManCityWomen\/status\/1979181782571385108?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 17, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The position is England\u2019s most competitive spot and there is no shortage of backups for Wiegman.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe Kelly and Beth Mead are both fighting for their place in England\u2019s lineup and Mead particularly has enjoyed great form of late.<\/p>\n<p>The Arsenal duo still face more competition from other stars though, namely in Aggie Beever-Jones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shekicks.net\/wsl-striker-power-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chelsea\u2019s striker has scored four goals in six league games<\/a> to start the campaign and after a breakout summer with the Lionesses, she has to be considered as an option on the wing.<\/p>\n<p>Although Beever-Jones is a striker, she has experience playing on both wings at club level.<\/p>\n<p>Who is England\u2019s backup goalkeeper?<\/p>\n<p>There is no doubt that this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/shekicks.net\/ballon-dor-hannah-hampton-yachine-trophy-matt-beard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inaugural Yashin winner Hannah Hampton<\/a> is the future of England\u2019s goalkeeping union.<\/p>\n<p>But if Hampton was to get injured, who would replace the 24-year-old?<\/p>\n<p>Both Khiara Keating and Anna Moorhouse are the backups selected for England\u2019s upcoming friendlies.<\/p>\n<p>Neither Keating nor Moorhouse are yet to earn their first senior cap for the Lionesses, but both were part of the Euro 2025 winning squad.<\/p>\n<p>Keating is competing for her position at Manchester City and she is anything but a certainty to be England\u2019s backup.<\/p>\n<p>Moorhouse on the other hand gets regular minutes for Orlando Pride and might be a better option.<\/p>\n<p>With four friendlies coming up over the next few months, there is no better time for Wiegman to trial one of her backups in net and it is certainly something to watch out for.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Agyemang: England\u2019s future number 9?<\/p>\n<p>Alessia Russo seems nailed on to start up front for England in the near future, but Euro 2025 breakout star Michelle Agyemang could be a long-term solution.<\/p>\n<p>The forward was her nation\u2019s hero in both the quarter and semi-finals in Switzerland and she has earned a deserved spot in the England team as a result.<\/p>\n<p>After making such a great impression for the Lionesses in summer as a super sub, Agyemang will be hoping for an opportunity in the starting lineup for one of England\u2019s Homecoming Tour friendlies.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A star of the future, a star of NOW \u2b50<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Agyemang, Young Player of the Tournament.
