A surge of \u201cwalking wounded\u201d and people with seasonal illnesses and viruses have been turning up at the hospital\u2019s Emergency Care Area in recent days, putting emergency services and frontline teams under strain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">Now, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hulldailymail.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a> Humber Health Partnership, which runs Hull Royal Infirmary, is appealing to the public to use alternative services such as their GPs, local pharmacists or one of the Urgent Treatment Centres in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hulldailymail.co.uk\/all-about\/goole\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Goole<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hulldailymail.co.uk\/all-about\/bridlington\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bridlington<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hulldailymail.co.uk\/all-about\/bransholme\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bransholme<\/a>, Hull or <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hulldailymail.co.uk\/all-about\/beverley\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Beverley<\/a>, unless they are in genuine need of emergency care. Dr Kate Wood, group chief medical officer, said: \u201cWe are seeing lots of people coming into our ED who may need medical attention but can be seen by their GP or pharmacist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">\u201cWe\u2019ve even had people calling 999 for an ambulance, even though they know it\u2019s not a medical emergency, because they think it might get them seen more quickly. But it won\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">\u201cInstead, all they\u2019re doing is diverting services away from the sickest people who really need urgent medical attention. We are asking people to consider if they really need to call an ambulance or come to A&amp;E before they make that call or set off for Hull Royal Infirmary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">\u201cIf you are not in need of emergency care, you will face a very long wait to be seen or even be sent elsewhere after a very long wait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How do you rate your GP surgery?<\/p>\n<p>gp surgery poll<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s great, I&#8217;ve never really had any problems<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s OK, I&#8217;ve had some issues but it&#8217;s not terrible<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s terrible, I have had a lot of problems<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">Urgent treatment centres can help with sprains and strains, suspected broken bones, injuries, cuts and bruises, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, skin infections and rashes, high temperature in children and adults and mental health concerns. Hull\u2019s ED is there to provide emergency medical attention for serious or life-threatening illnesses or injuries including heavy bleeding, unconsciousness, cardiac arrest, strokes, seizures or choking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">Wendy Page, nurse director, is part of the senior team running Hull\u2019s ED. It\u2019s likely that you\u2019ll be seen far more quickly if you go somewhere else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">\u201cAt the moment, people are waiting for at least five hours but it can be much, much longer if you\u2019re not an emergency case.
