Picture: PA<\/p>\n<p>In November, the 60-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/ashford\/news\/masterchef-host-greg-wallace-steps-down-amid-historical-alle-316579\/?_gl=1*q1bvh9*_ga*NzQ0NzI3MDA4LjE3NDU2NTQ5MjE.*_ga_XNCF8VQ4K0*MTc0NTY1NDkyMS4xLjEuMTc0NTY1NTc3Ni4wLjAuMA..\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stepped down from his role on MasterChef<\/a> following complaints from individuals about historical allegations of misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>He then issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/kentonline.co.uk\/ashford\/news\/gregg-wallace-shares-message-with-fans-amid-historic-miscond-316615\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">short video message to fans<\/a> on Instagram following the news, where he thanked people reaching out and showing their support.<\/p>\n<p>The findings of the investigation will be made public next month.<\/p>\n<p>Wallace said once he stepped down from the BBC show, he had struggled to sleep and that \u201cthe feeling of being under attack, of isolation, of abandonment was overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/tvshowbiz\/article-14647709\/Gregg-Wallace-wife-interview-MasterChef-star-allegations-misconduct.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In his interview with the Daily Mail, <\/a>He added: \u201cNobody from the BBC contacted me once these stories started breaking \u2013 absolutely nobody at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNews channels were updating hourly with new allegations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a tidal wave of abuse on social media, a dozen reporters outside the gate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou&#8217;re watching yourself get personally ripped apart, criticised, accused of all sorts of stuff over and over again.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 630 583\" alt=\"Gregg Wallace responded on Instagram following allegations of misconduct. Your body feels like it&#8217;s shutting down because it can&#8217;t cope with the levels of stress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou feel really dirty and horrible because everybody is saying you&#8217;re a pervert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace cremated his mum, 80-year-old Mary Pettman, last month after she died following a fatal heart attack in her sleep.<\/p>\n<p>He told The Mail: \u201cShe was always very proud of me. I&#8217;m her eldest and, of course, I was on the telly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s terribly sad that in the last days of her life she was reading horrible things about me and witnessing my disgrace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His wife Anna told MailOnline she is determined to speak up for her husband, adding: \u201cAbout a week into it all, he broke down in the hallway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was sobbing, &#8220;I&#8217;m broken. They&#8217;ve beaten me. They&#8217;ve completely ruined my name&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018I was scared he&#8217;d crumble completely&#8230;\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt just got too much for him. I was scared he&#8217;d crumble completely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The number of complainants went from 13 to 30, and several allegations were made, including that he had groped crew members, which Wallace said is \u201cabsolutely not true\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He explained: \u201cI honestly never meant to upset anyone. I thought I was going in every day and just delivering what was wanted. I didn&#8217;t realise I was causing any problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, he was diagnosed with autism.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI want to make it absolutely clear I&#8217;m not blaming my behaviour on my diagnosis, but it does explain a hell of a lot to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough I&#8217;m still trying to compute why, if my persona on the telly was p****** so many people off for all those years, nobody told me at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The now dad-of-three joined MasterChef with co-host John Torode in 2005, and it became one of the most successful programmes on the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>He says that he fully expects to be held to account for some of his \u201csmuttier historic jokes\u201d, explaining: \u201cI was very slow to wake up to the changing nature of the work environment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samaritans.org\/ \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For confidential support on an emotional issue, call Samaritans on 116 123 at any time or click here to visit the website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.gov.uk\/social-care-and-health\/health\/release-the-pressure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">If you want to talk to someone confidentially, click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn&#8217;t until seven years ago that I had a massive wake-up call and realised the loud, energetic greengrocer persona I was on the telly was, maybe, becoming redundant, so I changed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But when the allegations were made last year, he said he didn&#8217;t realise the enormity of it because [he] thought [he] hadn&#8217;t done anything bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cMy world tumbled in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point, my name is being linked with Jimmy Savile and Huw Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s vital there are channels open for vulnerable people to complain if they are being bullied, harassed or made to feel uncomfortable, but the system hasn&#8217;t been perfected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn&#8217;t work if the person is a public figure, and everything becomes a public trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought about suicide all the time, is my insurance up to date?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill Anna get some money? She doesn&#8217;t deserve this. It would be better if I wasn&#8217;t here&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018I didn&#8217;t know when I signed up to do a television show 20 years ago this was how it was going to play out&#8230;\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the stress he was under, he says the BBC did not offer any support until emailing him a few weeks ago to arrange a meeting to discuss his historic behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Later that day, they sent a second email with links to organisations such as the Samaritans, NHS mental health support lines, and two suicide helplines.<\/p>\n<p>Gregg said: \u201cI didn&#8217;t know when I signed up to do a television show 20 years ago this was how it was going to play out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I had, there is no way I&#8217;d have put my name on that bit of paper. It hasn&#8217;t been worth it.
