But if your weekend diary is empty right now,\u00a0Time Out is\u00a0here to help you fix that.\u00a0The brilliant thing about\u00a0this city (in spite of its reputation) is that you\u00a0don\u2019t have to spend endless money to stay busy and feel cultured. There\u2019s an abundance of genuinely great free things happening here all the time, not to mention all the\u00a0parks, city farms, comedy shows, live gigs, museums and galleries<\/a>\u00a0that you can enjoy free of charge year-round.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So, from creative workshops to wacky markets\u00a0to seasonal celebrations, here are all of our favourite free things going on in London this weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Science Gallery\u2019s exhibition\u00a0Quantum Untangled\u00a0uses\u00a0art, science and interdisciplinary research\u00a0to ask\u00a0big questions about how quantum physics affects our world; like \u2018How do we understand reality?\u2019 \u2018How do the smallest particles in the universe ripple across space and time?\u2019 Now you can experience it after hours with live DJ sets, quantum computing arcade games and a studio playing an infinite remix of\u00a0electronic artist\u00a0IL\u0100\u2019s\u00a0tracks in real time to produce an ever-evolving soundscape. There\u2019ll also be chance to take picture in a\u00a0quantum blur photobooth and chat to quantum researchers and technologists.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Co-curated by singer songwriter Rebecca Lucy Taylor (aka Self Esteem), this year\u2019s London Literature Festival has plenty of free things going on. The National Poetry Library\u00a0will be taking over the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer on Saturday to\u00a0host Poetry Day, with live poetry\u00a0readings, writing workshops and the opportunity to browse through rare gems and new acquisitions from the\u00a0largest public collection of modern poetry in the world.\u00a0Around the corner, you can see \u2018A Complicated Woman – Installation\u2019, a series of artworks that animate Self Esteem\u2019s\u00a0notes, words and lyrics, free to see on the Royal Festival Hall Wall from dusk until 11pm. And for families, there are free workshops from Alphabet Soup,\u00a0helping children create colourful\u00a0poems and stories to celebrate food.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Vagina Museum\u2019s monthly local makers\u2019 market specialises in crafts by emerging queer creatives. This Halloween-themed edition will see spooky paraphernalia on sale as well as the usual fare. Crafts on show will include risograph posters from Bengali artist Tarrine, handwoven chainmail necklaces from trans owned business\u00a0Marginalia Chains and ceramics from Moss Pots. Grab a drink, browse the stalls\u00a0and fill your boots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With autumn comes a glorious feast of homegrown pumpkin, squashes, apples, cabbages, blackberries and more.\u00a0Leyton is celebrating\u00a0harvest time with a day-long celebration\u00a0full of\u00a0food, crafts, music and dancing. Head along for live music and a bountiful \u2018pay what you can\u2019 banquet of dishes cooked by the community and local business\u00a0like Ochi, Khao Suppers and Wins. There\u2019ll be community activities going on\u00a0throughout\u00a0the day and the dancing will last\u00a0into the evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Head to Greenwich\u00a0to enjoy a whole\u00a0bunch\u00a0family-friendly events to mark the Hindu festival of lights. Kids will get the chance to dress up in colourful Hindu wear while the Maritime Museum\u2019s Ocean Court will house all-female Bhangra performances by dance team Eternal Taal,\u00a0a Bharatanatyam performance by Hashna Siva,\u00a0with\u00a0workshops to let you try it for yourself. There’ll be a hands on Rangoli workshop where you can try your hand at creating your own patterns with coloured sand or flour, plus a chance to make a Diwali lantern to carry in a lantern parade at the end of the day, to the beat of Dhol drummers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Walthamstow\u2019s Signature Brew taproom will be filled with a selection of gothic stalls for this Halloween-themed market. Pick up macabre fashion, art, jewellery, home decor and more from over 30 alternative small businesses. There\u2019ll also be a soundtrack of\u00a0non-stop pop punk and emo, ghoulish treats, a tooth gem stand and beers on tap to get you in the mood for All Hallow\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n
