{"id":522278,"date":"2025-10-23T13:35:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T13:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/522278\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T13:35:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T13:35:11","slug":"doctors-in-england-to-strike-for-five-days-in-november-amid-pay-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/522278\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctors in England to strike for five days in November amid pay row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/doctors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Doctors;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Doctors<\/a> in England will go on strike for five days in November in a row over jobs and pay, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/british-medical-association\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:British Medical Association;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">British Medical Association<\/a> (BMA) has announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Resident doctors will walk out for consecutive days from 7am from November 14 to 19 after failing to reach an agreement with Health Secretary Wes Streeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Jack Fletcher, chair of the Resident Doctors Committee, urged Mr Streeting to return to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He added that the situation was \u201cdisappointing but not unredeemable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mr Fletcher said: \u201cThis is not where we wanted to be. We have spent the last week in talks with Government, pressing the health secretary to end the scandal of doctors going unemployed &#8230; a situation which cannot go on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe talked with the Government in good faith \u2013 keen for the health secretary to see that a deal that included options to gradually reverse the cuts to pay over several years, giving newly trained doctors a pay increase of just a pound an hour for the next four years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe hoped the Government would see that our asks are not just reasonable but are in the best interests of the public and our patients and would also help stop our doctors leaving the NHS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cBetter employment prospects and restoring pay \u2013 are a credible way forward that would work for doctors, work for Government and work for our patients.
