\n A group of friends from across the UK, including a lecturer at the university, have launched a Go Fund Me<\/a> to contribute towards Alghoul\u2019s living and visa costs.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n One of the fundraiser\u2019s organisers told The Herald: \u201cIf it is not feasible for her to get to the UK before the deadline, we will try and defer the offer until January or next year.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cThe university has been very collaborative and has waived the tuition fees.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n The organiser said: \u201cI was moved by the passion and resilience she had to carry on living.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cI sent her a message through social media after reading an interview she had done, but only heard back last month.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cShe told me she had received an offer to study at Glasgow. It was too late to apply for any of these scholarships as she didn\u2019t have any access to the internet as her home was damaged during the bombings.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cWe decided to begin the Go Fund Me to help her pay for living in the UK. We have raised about half of the total amount.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n Last week, Alghoul posted an update to her LinkedIn page<\/a>: \u201cAfter surviving years of war and displacement, I lost my home, my neighborhood, and almost everything I had \u2014 but not my hope.\n<\/p>\n \n “Despite the destruction, I\u2019ve been accepted with an unconditional offer and CAS number to study in the UK.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n “My dream is to continue my education and rebuild lives through learning. However, without financial support, I cannot leave Gaza<\/a> or begin this new chapter.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cThis campaign was created to help me cover travel and living expenses so I can finally reach safety and start my studies.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n The organiser added: \u201cWe are confident we can meet our target. Even if she can\u2019t come this week, we will fund an alternative start in January or next autumn.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cEducation<\/a> is very important, because without it nothing will change.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n Read more:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n \n The university does not comment on individual students.\n<\/p>\n \n However, when asked about two other students stuck in Gaza last week, a spokesperson said: \u201cAs a University of Sanctuary, we are committed to ensuring that anyone from anywhere in the world with the drive, determination and desire to pursue a degree is empowered to do so.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cWe recognise the desperate situation for those in Gaza who have applied for UK universities, and it is humbling that some students can now fulfil their wish to study at the University of Glasgow<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n
