{"id":523264,"date":"2025-10-23T22:51:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T22:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/523264\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T22:51:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T22:51:16","slug":"four-out-of-five-voters-who-say-brexit-has-been-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/523264\/","title":{"rendered":"Four out of five voters who say Brexit has been a\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly two thirds of Brits believe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/brexit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit<\/a> has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/brexit-uk-economy-rachel-reeves-b2849278.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a failure <\/a>\u2013 and they mainly blame <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/boris-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boris Johnson<\/a>, a survey has revealed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/bbc-brexit-vote-leave-bus-nhs-b2336951.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Despite slogans on Leave campaign buses claiming \u00a3350million was being sent each week to the European Union,<\/a> most also believe the UK\u2019s exit<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/european-union\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> has failed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/brexit-uk-economy-rachel-reeves-b2849278.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">because of the damage it has done to the economy.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new figures, part of a major report to be unveiled on Friday, come just days after Rachel Reeves warned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/politics\/brexit-uk-economy-andrew-bailey-bank-of-england-b2847924.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit<\/a> had an even bigger impact on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/china-hong-kong-united-states-donald-trump-b2848249.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the economy<\/a> than critics predicted.   <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/SEI271185879-1.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"\/> (UK Covid-19 Inquiry)<\/p>\n<p>Ministers have increasingly blamed the dire state of the nation\u2019s finances on the decision to leave the EU<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/bulletin\/news\/eu-russia-drone-wall-russia-defence-b2846873.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">, as the chancellor prepares for a Budget later this month in which she is widely predicted to have to either raise taxes or break her fiscal rules.<\/a><\/p>\n<p> Of the 62 per cent who say Brexit has been a failure, 8 in 10 (80 per cent) point the finger of blame at Boris Johnson, who before he became prime minister was a high profile Leave campaigner. In 2019, he won a huge majority in a snap general election to \u201cget Brexit done\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Just 7 in 10 (69 per cent) said they hold Nigel Farage responsible. <\/p>\n<p>Of the nearly two thirds who say Brexit has been a failure, 57 per cent point to the damage it caused to the economy, the polling of 4,368 adults by YouGov, commissioned by Best for Britain, found. <\/p>\n<p>Naomi Smith, the chief executive of Best for Britain, said: \u201cPolitics is finally catching up with both public opinion and economic reality.
