{"id":523742,"date":"2025-10-24T03:18:34","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T03:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/523742\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T03:18:34","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T03:18:34","slug":"king-charles-to-host-trump-at-windsor-castle-in-september-dw-07-14-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/523742\/","title":{"rendered":"King Charles to host Trump at Windsor Castle in September \u2013 DW \u2013 07\/14\/2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/us-president-donald-trump-russia-ukraine-israel-gaza-tariffs-trade-war\/t-19434433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> will make an unprecedented second state visit to the <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/united-kingdom\/t-60783992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Kingdom<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n<p>Buckingham Palace confirmed that <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/king-charles-iii\/t-36992023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">King Charles<\/a> and Queen Camilla will welcome the US president from September 17 to 19.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His Majesty the King will host the President and Mrs. Trump at Windsor Castle,&#8221; <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/house-of-windsor\/t-39816730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the palace<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><img data-format=\"MASTER_LANDSCAPE\" data-id=\"71777357\" data-url=\"https:\/\/static.dw.com\/image\/71777357_${formatId}.jpg\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\" alt=\"Donald Trump holds a letter from Britain's King Charles as he meets with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the Oval Office on February 27, 2025\" style=\"padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; max-height: 0;\"\/>Trump said a stay at Windsor Castle is &#8216;really something&#8217; [FILE: February 27, 2025]Image: Kevin Lamarque\/REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Trump received a personal letter from the monarch, which British Prime Minister <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/keir-starmer\/t-69584184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a> delivered to him in February <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/ukraine-updates-uks-starmer-meets-trump-in-washington\/live-71764708\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">during a visit to Washington DC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Trump called the invitation\u00a0a &#8220;great, great honor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Starmer&#8217;s effort to keep Trump close<\/p>\n<p>No other American president has been invited twice for a state visit to the UK. It is widely seen as a strategic move by the British government to maintain close ties with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The US president was received by <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/queen-elizabeth-ii\/t-19198906\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth II<\/a> during a state visit in 2019, during his first term.<\/p>\n<p><img data-format=\"MASTER_LANDSCAPE\" data-id=\"73265027\" data-url=\"https:\/\/static.dw.com\/image\/73265027_${formatId}.jpg\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\" alt=\"Queen Elizabeth and President Donald Trump inspects an honor guard during his state visit in 2019\" style=\"padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; max-height: 0;\"\/>The late Queen hosted Trump during his first state visit in 2019Image: Pablo Martinez Monsivais\/AP\/dpa\/picture alliance<\/p>\n<p>Unlike French President Emmanuel Macron, who addressed the British Parliament <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/france-and-uk-agree-to-joint-migration-deal\/a-73233990\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">during his recent state visit<\/a>, Trump is not scheduled to speak to the House of Commons, which will be in recess during his visit.<\/p>\n<p>While Trump&#8217;s trip will feature a full royal ceremony, it is also expected to draw protests, as it did in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized the UK&#8217;s invitation, saying it undermined his government&#8217;s efforts to project a united front against <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/canada-not-for-sale-carney-tells-trump-as-they-meet\/a-72456185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump&#8217;s comments about annexing Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>King Charles is also Canada&#8217;s head of state and he\u00a0visited Canada back in May where he opened the nation&#8217;s parliament.<\/p>\n<p>It was seen as a\u00a0sign of support amid Trump&#8217;s trade war against Canada and threats to annex the country.<\/p>\n<p>Edited by: Karl Sexton<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Donald Trump will make an unprecedented second state visit to the United Kingdom in September.
