It sounds like we might get a second season of Hawkeye<\/strong> after all.<\/p>\n

During a recent\u00a0interview with High Performance<\/strong><\/a>, star Jeremy Renner revealed that he declined the Disney’s\u00a0offer to reprise the lead role of Clint Barton when he was only offered half of his season 1 salary.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, it\u2019s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n

Renner believed that his near-fatal 2023 snowplough accident contributed to the lower offer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m sorry? Why? Did you think I\u2019m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that\u2019s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not Marvel, mind you,”<\/strong> he clarified. “This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It\u2019s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So we didn\u2019t see eye to eye on it,\u201d Renner continued, adding that he\u2019s not ruling out a return to \u201cHawkeye\u201d in the future. \u201cSadly, I still love the character. I\u2019d still love to do it, but I I had to defend myself. I didn\u2019t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made made the first season. So it\u2019s all disheartening that that didn\u2019t happen, but that\u2019s fine. I\u2019m happy to let that go, because my body\u2019s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I\u2019m not doing it right now. But we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

It seems Renner and the studio have come to an understanding since, as the actor now sounds\u00a0a lot more confident that a second season of Hawkeye will happen at some point.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got to where we\u2019re trying to do the second season,\u201d<\/strong> Renner tells The Playlist<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cAnd I think I\u2019ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we\u2019ll work it out. It\u2019s gonna be great.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI really enjoyed doing the series version,\u201d <\/strong>he added. \u201cBecause it was a bit more intimate and had the family dynamic, which is always a huge part of him. I think Clint\u2019s superpower is the human side \u2014 he\u2019s a superpowerless superhero. He\u2019s one of the few, but I think his superpower is that sort of grit of the human condition and his loyalty and family. It\u2019s like, otherwise, what are you fighting for? We\u2019re fighting for that love and that loyalty of family. And so exploring that was always great. And then there\u2019s the Christmas theme \u2014 being in New York, that was great too.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Though he hasn’t been confirmed to return, it seems highly likely that Renner will appear as Barton in either Avengers: Doomsday<\/strong> or Secret Wars.<\/strong>\u00a0Hailee Steinfeld is also expected to reprise her role as Kate Bishop, so if a second season of Hawkeye does happen, it’ll be interesting to see if there’s a significant shift in the mentor\/mentee dynamic that worked so well in season 1.<\/p>\n
