{"id":523990,"date":"2025-10-24T05:36:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T05:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/523990\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T05:36:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T05:36:14","slug":"cyprus-invests-in-next-generation-genetic-research-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/523990\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyprus invests in next-generation genetic research technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CING secures \u20ac500,000 for cutting-edge spatial transcriptomics system<\/p>\n<p>The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) has acquired an <strong>advanced spatial transcriptomics platform <\/strong>for biological tissue analysis, according to an announcement released this week.<\/p>\n<p>The institute said that this represents \u201c<strong>a major step forward in the field of precision medicine<\/strong>\u201d for Cyprus, adding that \u201cthis development marks a decisive advancement\u201d for its research community.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the Department of Cancer Genetics, Therapeutics and Ultrastructural Pathology at CING has secured <strong>\u20ac500,000 in funding <\/strong>from the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF).<\/p>\n<p>The grant will finance the acquisition of a pioneering spatial transcriptomics analysis platform that enables the study of gene expression within the natural context of tissue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis cutting-edge technology <strong>places Cyprus at the forefront of international scientific progress<\/strong>,\u201d the institute said.<\/p>\n<p>The project, titled OPEN INFRA\/0625\/0079, is being implemented under Cyprus\u2019 Recovery and Resilience Plan \u201cCyprus Tomorrow\u201d with funding from the European Union\u2019s Next Generation EU, through the Research and Innovation Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The new platform enables comprehensive spatial analysis of the transcriptome within the natural framework of biological tissue.<\/p>\n<p>It also allows the simultaneous <strong>detection of thousands of genes in each tissue section<\/strong>. In addition, it provides co-detection of proteins, paving the way for advanced multimodal studies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe installation of this system <strong>marks a critical step forward for research in Cyprus<\/strong>, empowering the field of cancer genetics and strengthening the development of precision medicine,\u201d the institute explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe express our warmest thanks to the Research and Innovation Foundation for its invaluable support,\u201d said Dr Fotios Bekris, project coordinator and Director of the Department. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe successful proposal is the result of collaboration with our colleagues and represents an <strong>investment in the future of biomedical research in Cyprus<\/strong>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>This achievement is the result of close scientific cooperation between Dr Bekris and his colleagues Dr Andreas Chatzisavvas, Dr Sotiris Kyriakou and Dr Aikaterini Cheimona, along with Dr George M.
