Malvina Teglas appeared in the dock of Ballymena Magistrates Court today.<\/p>\n
She was charged with five offences arising from an incident close to her home on Paradise Mews in the town on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
Teglas, whose age was listed as \u201cover 21\u201d, faces changes of actual bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm, affray, making a threat to kill and possessing a weapon, namely a \u201clarge wooden stick.\u201d<\/p>\n
District Judge Peter Magill heard evidence from a police officer about the nature of the incident but he also saw a video of the entire incident after it was captured on a mobile phone from across the street.<\/p>\n
In it Teglas and another man appear to strike the alleged victim several times with what appears to be similar to pick-axe handles. When the large, middle aged man is on the ground, he is struck and kicked again.<\/p>\n
A member of the public intervenes and as the man is standing up Teglas hits him again, striking him to the back of the head with the wooden baton before the footage cuts out.<\/p>\n
Giving evidence to the court, a PSNI constable said that, according to the defendant during police interviews, the alleged victim came to her home and made threats against her and her son.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe threatened to kill us,\u201d Teglas claimed. \u201cHe had two sticks and he was shouting and threatening us: \u2018I want to kill you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
The court heard that while Teglas\u2019 son has been freed on bail, police were objecting to the defendant being freed over fears that she would interfere with the investigation as police are seeking a third man who was allegedly involved in the fracas.<\/p>\n
The officer confirmed that the alleged victim has not yet been spoken to or made a statement.<\/p>\n
He said that when Teglas was questioned, she claimed \u201che was threatening to rape her and kill her son.\u201d<\/p>\n
Freeing Teglas on her own bail of \u00a3250 and adjourning the case to May 22, Judge Magill ordered the defendant to reside at home and to have no contact with the alleged victim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Malvina Teglas appeared in the dock of Ballymena Magistrates Court today.
