The smooth spread has become so popular that <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/global-almond-butter-market-reach-083000012.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">it&#8217;s expected to reach<\/a>\u00a0a worldwide valuation of nearly $1.3 billion by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what almond butter is, how it can be good for you and why moderation still matters.<\/p>\n<p>What is almond butter?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Almond butter is a creamy spread made by grinding whole raw or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2023\/09\/09\/are-almonds-good-for-you\/70697212007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roasted almonds<\/a> into a smooth or slightly textured paste. As the nut breaks down, its natural oils are released, creating the creamy consistency of the \u201csmooth nut butter we know and love,\u201d says Cooke. Some brands also add a touch of salt or oil, but the healthiest versions are single-ingredient butters made from almonds alone.<\/p>\n<p>Almond butter is known for its rich, nutty flavor with a hint of sweetness; and its texture can range from silky to slightly gritty, depending on how long it&#8217;s been ground. Almond butter comes in similar varieties to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2025\/03\/09\/is-peanut-butter-a-good-source-of-protein\/81098500007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">peanut butter<\/a>: smooth, crunchy, raw, salted or unsalted, with roasted versions especially popular for their\u00a0deeper, toastier flavor.<\/p>\n<p>And while almonds have been cultivated for centuries across the Mediterranean and Middle East, almond butter is a relatively modern creation. Almond butter provides plenty of magnesium as well, \u201cwhich supports muscles, bones and the immune system,\u201d Gellman adds. The mineral also helps regulate blood sugar, nerve function and bone strength.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The spread&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/problem-solved\/2024\/09\/01\/high-fiber-foods\/75000443007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">high fiber<\/a> content, between 3 and 4 grams in just two tablespoons, promotes a feeling of fullness and supports digestive health. And although its fats are healthy, excessive intake can still contribute to unwanted pounds. \u201cIf you\u2019re aiming to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2024\/01\/03\/what-is-the-fastest-way-to-lose-weight\/71925908007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lose weight<\/a>, you may want to stick to around one tablespoon at a time,\u201d she advises.<\/p>\n<p>Some people also experience digestive discomfort when eating almond butter due to its high fat and fiber content. And because almonds contain oxalates, overconsumption of the butter poses a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2025\/06\/23\/what-causes-kidney-stones\/84266272007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kidney stone risk<\/a> in susceptible individuals. Salted versions of the product can also pose issues for those with high blood pressure, \u201cso it\u2019s best to choose one that\u2019s low in sodium,\u201d advises Gellman.
