(Picture: Metro UK)<\/p>\n<p>Areas like <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/05\/25\/why-reading-could-be-the-best-place-to-move-if-you-want-to-relocate-14639614\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reading<\/a>, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/10\/27\/stratford-named-the-cultural-capital-of-london-by-forbes-19731764\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stratford<\/a>, Hayes and Harlington, and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/10\/21\/overlooked-london-area-undergoing-80-000-000-regeneration-24475510\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abbey Wood<\/a>, are all served on this line, which then runs via Paddington and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/liverpool-fc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool<\/a> Street.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide Building Society\u2019s study revealed the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/elizabeth-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Elizabeth line<\/a> is sought after, with 12% saying it\u2019s their nearest line, while 14% of Brits would like to live by it.<\/p>\n<p>Next is the <strong>Metropolitan line<\/strong>, with homes near this line costing \u00a3463,000 on average. It goes as far out as <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/06\/20\/tube-station-not-london-links-roman-empire-21069449\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amersham<\/a>, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/buckinghamshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buckinghamshire<\/a>, and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/watford-fc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Watford<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It opened back in 1863 and became the first underground railway in the world, before extending from Baker Street to Swiss Cottage five years later.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t until 1925 that the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/03\/06\/why-watford-could-be-great-for-families-with-great-schools-18395090\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Watford<\/a> branch opened, where homes now cost an average of \u00a3470,240, according to Rightmove.<\/p>\n<p>The third most affordable line to live near is actually the <strong>DLR <\/strong>(Docklands Light Railway). Homes near <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/02\/08\/london-transport-tfl-unveils-new-futuristic-dlr-trains-coming-to-2024-18246952\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DLR<\/a> stations cost an average of \u00a3475,000.<\/p>\n<p>It serves the likes of Shadwell and Lewisham, as well as <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/27\/major-change-londons-best-airport-finally-see-budget-flights-take-off-22440815\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">London City Airport.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2185152272.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24523688\" alt=\"General view of an Elizabeth Line sign at a station as\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tThe Elizabeth line is the cheapest tube line to live near (Picture: Vuk Valcic\/SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Next on the most affordable list is the <strong>Central line<\/strong>, with properties on this line averaging \u00a3488,000. It\u2019s also one of the hottest tube lines with temperatures soaring to 31.4 degrees in August.<\/p>\n<p>It opened on July 1900 as a cross-London route from Bank to <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/shepherds-bush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shepherd\u2019s Bush<\/a>, and now serves West Ruislip to the likes of Epping and Chigwell.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top five cheapest transport lines to live near is the <strong>Piccadilly line<\/strong> with properties costing \u00a3515,000 on average.<\/p>\n<p>The most expensive transport lines to live near<\/p>\n<p>If you live near any of these tube lines, then it\u2019s likely you\u2019re paying a premium.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to buy next to the <strong>Circle line<\/strong> is the priciest choice you can make, given the line never pokes its head outside of zone two.<\/p>\n<p>Properties near these stations cost an eye-watering average of \u00a3729,000, \u00a3100,000 more than the second-most expensive line \u2013 <strong>Bakerloo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you live near a Bakerloo station homes cost around the \u00a3617,000 mark, and it serves stations between Harrow and Wealdstone, and Elephant and Castle.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-917017822.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24523694\" alt=\"The entrance of Westminster Underground Station and the Big Ben\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tThe more central the line, the more expensive the property (Picture: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The third most expensive line is <strong>Victoria<\/strong>, with properties near its stations costing \u00a3587,000. The original 1968 line received a complete upgrade in 2012, and connects four mainline terminals; Euston, St Pancras, King\u2019s Cross and Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t go out further than zone three, stopping at Walthamstow Central and Brixton, so it\u2019s little surprise it\u2019s on the pricier side.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top five most expensive transport lines is the <strong><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/10\/06\/underground-journey-trains-stop-station-twice-21734184\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Northern line<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong>Hammersmith &amp;
