The entire package of six brownies lasted exactly one day in my house.

That’s not unusual for me, but it certainly speaks volumes about just how tasty these brownies were. It’s incredible to think that I only recently discovered this Edinburgh-based brand, all thanks to some entertaining Facebook video ads. My goodness, advertising works.

After researching the brand, I see that it is well-known. They have been on TV and lauded as independent brilliance. Phillip Schofield said they were the best he’s tasted. I emailed them to see if they were doing something for Halloween, and they confirmed they were. When the email arrived to say “you can order now,” I pounced. I hope I was one of the very first people in 2025 to order one.

The Glorious Taste

The brownies are, without question, fantastic. The taste is glorious.

Gimmie Brownies says their bakes will last for 10 days, or two months in the freezer. I can believe this because they are very sugary, and sugar is a preservative.

However, I think this 10-day shelf life is an academic point. I cannot imagine anyone putting these six brownies down without eating one, at the very least.

The ordering process was simple. You do not get to pick any day for delivery; you pick from their available baking slots and get the brownies when they are fresh. Impressively, they arrived on the exact date I had chosen.

The Postal Problem

While the brownies were very tasty, they did not survive their time with Parcel Force. This is where the 3/5 score comes in.

The Gimmie Brownies box, which is a bit like a small pizza box, arrived with a very obvious dent on the top. I’m not saying somebody stood on it, but it certainly had that vibe.

When I opened it, I was not surprised to find that the Halloween toppings had not survived. The artistic skill and talent that went into them had been rendered useless. The decorations were squished and stuck to the careful paper packaging.

This didn’t affect the taste in any way, and I didn’t care. But if I had been ordering those as a parent with toddlers or six-year-olds expecting Halloween treats, they would have been gutted.

In better news, I discovered that Gimmie Brownies is one and the same as the Zebra Coffee Co., located just off the Royal Mile. I have walked past it many times, but never been in. Now that I know they make these brownies, and I see they offer tempting-looking stuffed-crust cookies, I have firm plans to visit.

Things to do near the Royal Mile

While Gimmie Brownies is a postal-only brand, its parent company, Zebra Coffee Co., is in a prime Edinburgh location for tourists and locals.

The cafe is a short walk from Waverley Station, making it a perfect first stop. The area is the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, and you can find a huge range of hotels and apartments on Booking.com.

From here, you are minutes from all the main attractions. You could book a historical tour on GetYourGuide to explore the Castle and closes, or catch a West End show at the nearby Edinburgh Playhouse.

And if you are staying locally and don’t fancy Zebra’s cookies, the Old Town has countless takeaways listed on Just Eat for a quick bite.

Overall

All in all, I’m disappointed that my brownies were squished, but not so squished that I couldn’t eat them one at a time. I certainly didn’t need to spoon them into my mouth.

I will definitely consider Gimmie Brownies for future internet purchases, but perhaps I will stick to their non-decorated classics. The taste is glorious, but the 3/5 score reflects a product where the seasonal, artistic element was completely lost in transit.

 Explore More On Edinburgh Reviews

Searching for related content…

Review: Gimmie Brownies Halloween Box

Andrew Girdwood

Gimmie Brownies’ Halloween box is “sinfully delicious,” but this 3/5 review notes the festive toppings were squished and ruined by Parcel Force delivery.

Summary

We review the Gimmie Brownies Halloween box, a postal treat from an Edinburgh brand that delivers on “glorious taste” but gets a 3/5 after the box arrived dented and the contents squished.

Related

Gimmie Brownies’ Halloween box was, I can confirm, sinfully delicious.
