\n Community safety minister Siobhian Brown confirmed to the publication: \u201cWe are focusing our resources on frontline public services, including police and fire.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cAs a result, we will not progress plans to implement a fireworks licensing scheme or restrictions on the days on which fireworks can be supplied and used.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n The Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022 was first proposed in 2019, when the government pledged a “zero tolerance” approach to the misuse of fireworks.\n<\/p>\n

\n Licensing was promised for “late 2023 or early 2024.”\n<\/p>\n

\n Political rivals have slammed the decision, Scottish Labour justice spokeswoman Pauline McNeill told the newspaper: \u201cIt shows the SNP has no idea what it is doing.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThey have made a mockery of the Scottish Parliament by asking all parties to vote for a scheme they had no idea how to implement.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThis is yet another SNP promise that has been quietly dumped \u2014 but not before wasting time and public money on a damp squib.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n It comes as we reported this week how furious residents hit out at a ‘dangerous, illegal and upsetting’ fireworks display which saw missiles aimed at homes.\n<\/p>\n

\n Residents who live in Clydebank’s Radnor Park have spoken of nightly distress after a group of youngsters gathered in Boquhanran Park to let off the explosives, which on occasion are said to have targeted nearby homes.\n<\/p>\n

\n The anti-social behaviour has been reported in multiple areas across the town, with some claiming the fireworks have been let off “every day for the past six weeks.”\n<\/p>\n

\n One concerned resident took to Facebook in a desperate plea after the loud bangs were scaring her dog, leaving it “absolutely terrified.”\n<\/p>\n

\n She said the display last week was “dangerous, illegal and upsetting for the whole community.”\n<\/p>\n

\n Earlier this month<\/a>, two boys were charged after allegedly throwing fireworks at police officers.\n<\/p>\n

\n The incident happened around 8pm on October 15 in the Barlia Terrace area of Castlemilk.\n<\/p>\n

\n Both youths have been charged with reckless conduct after police say the boys targeted them with the fireworks.\n<\/p>\n

\n Chief Inspector Paul Daley said at the time: “We want everyone in our communities to enjoy Bonfire Night safely, but using fireworks to target police officers or anyone else is completely unacceptable.\n<\/p>\n

\n “This kind of behaviour puts people in danger and takes resources away from where they’re needed most.\n<\/p>\n

\n “Officers are here to keep the public safe, and we will take firm action against anyone who acts irresponsibly or endangers others.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n We reported last year on shocking damage caused by a bonfire lit in the middle of a road in the Southside.\n<\/p>\n

\n The blaze was thought to have started\u00a0on Albert Drive at its crossroads with Herriet Street\u00a0in the city’s Pollokshields on the evening of Tuesday, November 5, 2024.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Footage previously shared on social media showed the centre of a mini roundabout up in flames, as well as fireworks being lit on Albert Drive.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Police did not send in officers into the community on Bonfire Night due to fears of a \u201clarge-scale riot,”\u00a0a meeting has been told.\n<\/p>\n
