{"id":528950,"date":"2025-10-26T10:43:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T10:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/528950\/"},"modified":"2025-10-26T10:43:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-26T10:43:12","slug":"eu-works-on-plan-to-end-dependence-on-rare-earths-from-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/528950\/","title":{"rendered":"EU works on plan to end dependence on rare earths from China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European Union is working on a strategy to end its dependence on rare earths from China, after Beijing recently announced further curbs on the export of minerals vital to many key sectors, the EU&#8217;s chief announced on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The EU says the new controls on the export of rare-earth technologies by China, the world&#8217;s top producer of rare earths, have forced some of the bloc&#8217;s companies to halt production and have inflicted economic harm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The aim is to secure access to alternative sources of critical raw materials in the short, medium and long term for our European industries,&#8221; said EU chief Ursula von der Leyen.<\/p>\n<p>Since April, Beijing has required licenses for certain exports, sending ripple effects across worldwide manufacturing sectors.<\/p>\n<p>China this month announced new controls on the export of rare-earth technologies, used to make magnets crucial to the auto, electronics and defense industries.<\/p>\n<p>Von der Leyen said an important component of the EU plan would be recycling.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some companies can recycle up to 95% of critical raw materials and batteries,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The bloc will also focus on &#8220;the production and post-processing of critical raw materials&#8221; and forging &#8220;critical raw materials partnerships with countries like Ukraine and Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Chile and Greenland,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>                    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/JN9LXf.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n                    The Daily Sabah Newsletter&#13;\n                <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n                    Keep up to date with what\u2019s happening in Turkey,&#13;<br \/>\n                    it\u2019s region and the world.&#13;\n                <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                    SIGN ME UP&#13;\n                <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n                    You can unsubscribe at any time.
