Bryson DeChambeau<\/a> ripped a huge 391-yard drive en route to the lead of LIV Golf’s<\/a> event in Mexico, screaming at the tee after his incredible shot. He held the sole lead at Club de Golf Chapultepec thanks to a series of bombing efforts that sent the crowd into raptures.<\/p>\n

A perfect storm was created when DeChambeau\u2019s big-hitting was accompanied by the Mexico City altitude. On the par-four first hole, which was DeChambeau\u2019s last of the day, he unleashed a huge 391-yard drive that finished on the green and just 35 feet away from the pin.<\/p>\n

The two-time US Open<\/a> champion was bombing drives on every par four and par five and before two-putting for an easy birdie, DeChambeau erupted at the tee as he cheered with his caddie and the crowd, starting a high-five train to take in the applause after a stunning effort.<\/p>\n

He nailed an eagle on the very next hole, then bagged back-to-back birdies on holes three and four, before two more birdies and a bogey saw DeChambeau finish eight-under.<\/p>\n

The American leads Cameron Smith and Jon Rahm<\/a>, who both came in seven-under, as the Mexico City course continues to provide plenty of excitement and drama.<\/p>\n

It is the first time the breakaway series has visited the Mexican capital, playing over 7,800 feet above sea level, and the thinner air means bigger drives – music to DeChambeau\u2019s ears.<\/p>\n

Taking to the range the previous day, the Crushers captain was seen hitting drives of 407 yards. He was joined by Phil Mickelson who told DeChambeau: “I was wondering if you could get to 400.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then as he watched DeChambeau, the six-time major winner added with a laugh: “Yeah, that is very sexy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old is gunning for his first LIV win in 2025, having lost out recently to Rory McIlroy<\/a> at the Masters<\/a>, where he played alongside the winner and was snubbed throughout their final round<\/a>.<\/p>\n

DeChambeau put himself in position to challenge for the green jacket, but struggled to keep pace with McIlroy and Justin Rose at Augusta.<\/p>\n

“I felt in control,” he said after watching McIlroy win a playoff. “What’s crazy is the third hole, hit it up there to 20 feet, I’m like, okay, that’s exactly the way I wanted to play the hole, and that putt, I’ve never seen a putt faster than that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose greens got really fast. The agronomists here at Augusta National and the Masters, they know how to play complete tricks on you.<\/p>\n

“I thought for no valid reason it went nine feet by. There’s no way that putt goes that far by. I just didn’t realise how firm and fast it could get out here. It’s great experience.
