I don’t think he (Charles) ever gave her a flower.”

He told the Sunday Times Business and Money supplement: “We Irish are free in our expressions, so I just called her Diana – I didn’t bow or call her ma’am.

“I particularly loved a suit I designed for her, when she appeared in Hyde Park with Pavarotti. It was raining but she was sun-kissed and breathtakingly gorgeous. I get tears in my eyes when I think about her.

“She had a very close, friendly relationship with her children. All their best qualities come from her.”

The designer hit the headlines in 2015 when he said that Kate Middleton was ‘no Princess Diana’.

He said: “She started off as another Princess Diana, but I think I got the right one. I was lucky to have Princess Diana as my epitaph. Kate is lovely, but she’s no Princess Diana.

“Different backgrounds, different everything. She’s obviously very obedient and carries out the royal message. She won’t be running around and hanging out with Elton John anytime soon.”

The 71-year-old Dublin-born designer, who worked at Princess Diana’s personal designer from 1982 to 1997, said that he…

[7708
93840,7709,7730,7731,36174,46232,1760,171633,9729,1412,7710,519,170725
0":"post-529645","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-royals","8":"tag-autoplay_video","9":"tag-british-royal-family","10":"tag-charles","11":"tag-charles-iii","12":"tag-ctp_video","13":"tag-designer","14":"tag-king-charles","15":"tag-paul-costelloe","16":"tag-prince-charles","17":"tag-princess-diana","18":"tag-royal-families","19":"tag-royal-family","20":"tag-uploadexpress
["GET
