Lord King\u2019s scathing seven-word swipe of the Chancellor came as he warned she lacks a \u201ccoherent\u201d strategy on <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Taxes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tax<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Reeves is widely expected to raise taxes and cut spending in her <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Budget next month<\/a> to fill a huge black hole in public finances. Economists estimate the gap to be between \u00a320billion and \u00a350billion. Reports suggest Ms Reeves is <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/finance\/personalfinance\/2126062\/rachel-reeves-launch-brutal-tax-homeowners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">considering a new mansion tax<\/a>, as well as a manifesto-busting 2p hike to <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/income-tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">income tax<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lord King, who led the Bank of England through the 2008 financial crisis, told the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/mansion-tax-not-part-of-coherent-strategy-former-bank-of-england-governor-mervyn-king-says-13458026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday with Trevor Phillips show on Sky News<\/a>: \u201cWhat I would advise her to do is to set up a group of people who, in 12 months, look deeply at all aspects of the tax treatment, not just on property, but all kinds of other sorts of savings and wealth, to come up with a coherent view as to what it should look like.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\">\u201cAnd that doesn\u2019t seem to happen.
