Tributes have been pouring in for “magical” Crossroads actor Tony Adams, who has sadly passed away at the age of 84.<\/a><\/p>\n Adams<\/a> passed away at Sussex County Hospital in Brighton on Saturday, with his wife Christine at his side.<\/p>\n Michael Rose, from The Michael Rose Organisation Ltd, paid homage to Adams, describing him as an “absolute joy” and a gifted actor, dancer and singer.<\/a><\/p>\n “He was one of the warmest gentlemen you could wish to work with,” Mr Rose added.<\/p>\n “He was an absolute joy. He was a dancer originally but there was nothing Tony couldn’t do.<\/p>\n “He was a very accomplished actor, he was a really good dancer and singer.<\/p>\n “He played Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and was a joy to have in the company, as he was in every company.<\/p>\n “We shall miss him.”<\/p>\n Born Anthony Sawley Adams in Anglesey, Wales, in 1940, he honed his acting<\/a> skills at the renowned Italia Conti theatre school.<\/p>\n After making a name for himself on stage, he became known to television audiences<\/a> as Dr Neville Bywaters in the 1970s soap General Hospital and also featured in the Dr Who series The Green Death.<\/p>\n In 1978, he embraced the role of accountant Adam Chance in the soap Crossroads<\/a>, a character that would become his most recognised.<\/p>\n The series concluded in 1988 after an impressive run of more than 4,500 episodes<\/a>, with Adams remaining until the very end.<\/p>\n He was among the original cast members<\/a>, including Jane Rossington and Kathy Staff, who reprised their roles when the soap made a comeback in 2001.<\/p>\n Adams<\/a> later graced the stage in the theatrical adaptation of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium Theatre, where he portrayed Grandpa Potts, in 2004.<\/p>\n In 2023, he made a cameo<\/a> appearance in Nolly \u2013 a three-part drama penned by Russell T Davies, which narrates the story of Crossroads actress Noele Gordon.<\/p>\n Augustus Prew, who portrayed Adams in the drama, fondly remembered him as a “magical man” during interviews<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n![\"Tony](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1_Undated-family-handout-photo-of-Crossroads-actor-Tony-Adams-who-has-died-at-the-age-of-84-Anthony-.webp\")
