Hundreds of warm coats and heavy jackets that will help people keep warm this winter were donated following an annual appeal by the Rotary Club of Rutherglen.<\/p>\n

The Wrap Up Lanarkshire initiative helps others during winter who may not have or be able to afford warm clothing, including those who find themselves homeless at this time of year.<\/p>\n

Around 500 winter coats and jackets were donated at four drop-off points between September 29 and Sunday October 5, at Burnside Church, Croftfoot Church, St Bride\u2019s Church, and Rutherglen United Reformed Church.<\/p>\n

Wrap Up donations were then collected by volunteers and each garment was painstakingly inspected to ensure it was clean and in a good condition to be given away.<\/p>\n

Andy Cattanach, past-president of Rotary Club of Rutherglen, said: \u201cThanks go to all who donated at the four locations of Burnside Church, Croftfoot Church, St Bride\u2019s Church and Rutherglen United Reformed Church and to those Rotarians and friends who helped with the collection, organisation and distribution.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecial thanks are owed to Bill Mcintosh of the National Sign Company for his administration and the use of his big van to collect and deliver the coats.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bags of coats which were sorted and packed at the Rutherglen United Reformed Church were then delivered to the charities. Thanks go to Rev John Sanderson of that church for their help.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the 500 warm coats and jackets collected and sorted were delivered to Kindness Charity base in London Road.\u201d<\/p>\n

The purpose of Wrap Up Lanarkshire is to collect as many good quality coats and warm jackets as possible.<\/p>\n

They will go to homeless\/refugee centres, the elderly, children\u2019s centres and organisations supporting those in crisis.<\/p>\n

Rotary volunteers collect them and sort them into sizes, and pass them to the relevant charity.<\/p>\n

No coats are sold. If the Rotary does receive coats that are in too poor condition to pass on, these will go to various recycling organisations.<\/p>\n
